Was wondering what other people wore when riding at this time of year. Because it is cold I have a couple of layers on but once I start riding you obviously start to sweat, does anyone know of tops that are breathable to keep you warm and wick away any moisture. I am trying hard not to get a cold this year.

Cheers

Ariat powerstertch jods (polar fleece)
Dubarry boots
Sealskinz gloves or Roeckl winter gloves
North face 3 layer system (base layer, fleece, soft shell)
Sheepskin liners in riding boots

i've got a berghaus shirt which is brilliant, that plus a down bodywarmer (also from ski shop) a really good musto jacket with fleecy lining, a turtlefur neck snuggler and fleecy hat, and musto winterweight snug jodhs, and i'm toasty no matter how cold it gets. i look like michelinwoman though...

I've not found anything suitable for my top half yet, but I wear my Mountain Horse thermal under-breeches under my normal jods and my legs stay nice and warm

I rarely wear the top though (certainly not for working on the yard) as it's just too hot. I go for layers - polo shirt, fleece/sweatshirt, thin bodywarmer, and fleece-lined coat. All whatever I grab out of the wardrobe first! I have yet to find something suitably breathable.

I have raynauds - not being prepared means extreme horrible pain in my hands and feet

My fingers can go numb to the point I can't open a door, it's not a pleasant experience.

I do covet some sheepskin lined riding boots though!

I don't seem to feel the cold, except the surface of my legs. If I wore that lot I'd be a puddle.

Normal long boots with thick socks, Pikeur weatherproof fleece-lined breeches, a turtleneck, hoodie, and fleece-lined all-weather jacket. I usually loose the jacket when I get to the school. Oh, and my normal gloves. I have thick lined leather ones for stuff around the yard, though.

I also have raynauds and find the muck boots are good for my feet when worn with heavyweight hiking socks.
I also wear thick fleece gloves at all times when out doors.

I'm another Raynaulds sufferer though luckily just my hands. I haven't found the answer to keeping them warm yet, other than 2 pairs of gloves. A thin thermal pair topped with a woollen outer pair works quite well but not in the wet. I've got some sealskinz but can't do rug clips etc when I'm wearing them. I can't do my poor horses's throat lash up too tight as my hands are usually too numb to undo it after riding and I have to just pull the bridle over her head. (I don't use a noseband for the same reason).

Best winter wear i ever invested in, ear muffs to attach to your hat!!! from Gibsons (racing stuff) they are great, in the cold the keep you warm, in the rain they keep you dry, and in the wind they shelter you!!

I'm another raynolds sufferer - doesn't matter how many layers you wear! I find my hands go cold, then very cold, then numb and then the worse stage is when the circulation restarts and it feels like someone's driven an HGV over my hands! worse pain in the world and then they're ok for at least an hour or so! My husband bought me heated gloves and insoles from Maplin - they're too big so haven't tried them yet but might be worth a try!

I treated myself to some mark todd winter trousers (waterproof and padded) and thought they were pricey, HOWEVER, I will never be without them ever again!! I have never been so warm and cosy both on the yard and riding, havent even noticed the cold, but boy do I notice if I dont put them on!!!! Best buy ever!!!

Myriad of various silly winter hats and gloves also help!
