My 12.2hh welsh sec B has been out of work since she broke her leg many years ago. We bought her when her owner at the time decided to put her to sleep, even though the vet said she would be fine with 3 months box rest. When she had recovered from her injury she had no rider and has only been ridden a hand full of times. We were thinking of putting an advert in the paper for a rider, as I am sure there are many children who would like the chance to ride a pony, however I am worried about them having an accident. If they were to fall off my pony and break an arm where would I stand? Is there any way I could prevent them from claiming against me? I really think being ridden would give her a much better quality of life. Thanks in advance.

Could you get some sort of contract drawn up, signed by you, jockey (or jockeys parents) stating that you will not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries and that jockey chooses to ride your pony at their own risk.

Sounds like a lovely idea and I hope you find a lovely little jockey.

Make sure the rider has their own insurance, or that you're covered for 3rd party (or whatever it is) and you should be fine.

However I'd still write up a contract anyway including a section stating the risks and that you cant be held liable for any injury or accident the jocky may have while around the horse.
