Rider Insurance - sharer

Ok, so fingers crossed I now have a sharer. Am just putting together a contract. I have told them they need to get their own Rider Insurance - what does this cover?

Does it cover 3rd party liability, or will this be covered under my own horse insurance (for anything that might happen out hacking and so on)?

I would think it would cover third party liability but best to check. However I think you should check your own policy details as you need to make sure your horse is also covered when sharer is riding him or her. Im not sure but there might be an issue if you are getting payment towards costs and your horse has an accident. Not sure but I would definitely check if you havent already done so.

Im not an insurance expert so dont mind being corrected if Im wrong!!

hi i was a sharer til recently and i got ride only insurance for petplan and chose to include 3rd party liability even though the horse was already covered for this. i would insist, if a sharer was riding my new horse that they also did this. i tried a horse a few months ago without the insurance, it bolted, smashed the side of my car up and the insurers of the horse would not pay out so a trial ride cost me a fortune, because i was riding not the owner even though the horse was covered!

Have spoken to my insurance company who said it's the horse that's covered so they will pay, but that I need to advise them of the name and address of the sharer so they know who else is riding.
Am going to ask them to send me a letter telling me that she is insured on my policy so I have that in writing!

Ahh that's what I was just about to say CC. When I had people come and ride my horses in the UK, they were covered by my horses insurance.

Just asked the question of my insurance co. as other people ride my boy if I am away. They said that the horse is covered and also anyone who rides with my permission.
