Hi wondering if anyone had any rough ideas as to how much rider insurance is? Looking to share my horse out and girl who is hopefully sharing her was asking as I've asked her to get it. My horse is currently insured with NFU so was going to try asking them first if they'd cover the sharer also and obviously for how much. Thanks

I had a share a few years ago, the owner kept up their insurance on the horse and I then took out BHS Gold membership (think it was about £40 then but has most propably gone up since then!). With the membership you get public liability insurance which is the main thing that i wanted to be covered for.

I think petplan do a rider only plan too or BHS gold membership.

But, and maybe insurance people could confirm or deny this, I was told that if money changes hands like in a share where you pay to ride a certain number of days per week, it's seen as a financial arrangement and rider only insurance is not valid.

£72 per year its just quoted me :) - I am nearly 21 and a student.
Not very expensive :)
I had this for my first loan pony - it meant whenever my mums loan horse (she wasn't insured) started pratting about I jumped off mine and jumped on hers!! :D

with Petplan by the way

Also would recommend looking at BHS Gold membership - £57 per year and includes personal accident insurance and third party liability. I've asked my sharer to get this so between us we are covered for all eventualities.

I pay NFU £60 per year. Never needed to claim so not sure what they are like then but it had good levels of public liability and vet cover.
