Rider killed at Cheshire show...

We were at the cheshire show today, was it when they asked for an anbulance in ring 4 {i think} we didnt hear or see any thing.

I'm sure it's just a rumour, hopefully....there was somebody fell off in one of the morning ridden classes, they asked for an ambulance for that, but I didn't hear of anything else?

Im just on my way back from there now, but had no idea any of that happened!!
Only things i heard over the tanoy were asking for owners of a certain horsebox to go back to the horse they'd left in it & it was distressed. Other one was to tell the idiot owners of a certain car to go & sort the 2 distressed dogs out they'd left in it!!

Poor horses though :(

No hunt relay is where the hunts jump an identical course against each other. Used to be more about acurecy with penalties for knock downs but today was just speeding round with no penalties.

The hunt relay? Went last year is that not just where the horses go out and people meet them? How awful

No, it's a jumping competition. Tesm of 3 or 4 riders, first one jumps the jumps then passes the baton to the next rider who then jumps and so on. They compete against another hunt, then the winners of the first rounds go in again, and so on til there is one team left, and they are the winners.

It can be quite a fast and furious competition, so accidents are bound to happen (as of course can happen in any other event).

Had a friend who lost their best hunter in the S of E inter hunt relay a few years back. I was persuaded to do one last yr and did it with a lot of trepidation - fortunately my lad is always a steady and sensible type, so didn't get wound up by the atmosphere.

So relieved that we both came out of it alive and the whole thing scared the pants off me - despite coming 2nd, have vowed never to do another.

So sad for all involved and thoughts with them.

I believe a girl broke her back after falling when her horse stumble during a trot in the Hack class.

Unless there has been an unfortunate repeat accident I think you might be referring to something that happened a couple of years ago - and if this is the case what you have put above is not strictly correct

I believe it was a girl called Amy Mitten broke her back in the hack class yesterday.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

unfortunatley i witnessed the poor horse that fell in the hunt relay today, was awful and cant stop thinking about the poor horse and rider,i have to say although accidents do happen, you have got to question whether relays like this should happen its very fast and furious and all caution and safety goes out the window especially when the crowd get all excited and encourage the riders to go faster!! my thoughts are with the rider and all concerned..:(

This is awful. Such a sad day at the show. :(

I watched a hunt relay 2 years ago at a Young Farmers Rally, which resulted in a terrible accident. One of the horses that was about to receive the batton reared up vertical, as the other horse galloped towards it, and the horse fell backwards onto the rider. I don't know what her injuries were, but it looked serious and they closed the arena for about 40 minutes as paramedics worked on her.
