Rider killed at Cheshire show...

unfortunatley i witnessed the poor horse that fell in the hunt relay today, was awful and cant stop thinking about the poor horse and rider,i have to say although accidents do happen, you have got to question whether relays like this should happen its very fast and furious and all caution and safety goes out the window especially when the crowd get all excited and encourage the riders to go faster!! my thoughts are with the rider and all concerned..:(

The horse apparently had a heart attack, which as unfortunate as it is can happen at any time. Thoughts with those with an empty stable tonight :(

I thought it was a bone. At the time that is what the hunt were saying, and it's certainly what the audience suspected, given the noise. But there you go!

In previous years there were penalties for a knockdown but this year, there seemed to be no rules at all.

Not that it would have prevented the horse from having a heart attack, but it might have made the competition safer for other horses and riders if they'd been encouraged to use their skill and judgement rather than gallop flat out.

That said, the show was well run and the vet and horse ambulance were there without delay and had the screens up whilst the horse was winched in.

There was another rider injured not the girl from hack class but a girl who horse bolted and she ended up running it into a moving lorry, horse injured and rider was air lifted out after she became dizzy following accident but was actually fine.
