I was wondering if anyone could help.
I only ride once or twice a week in a lesson at a great riding school, without a doubt the best one around. However the only problem I find with them is that we do NO work without stirrups. When I had my gelding I used to ride stirrupless for about 10-15 minutes before a schooling session, which really helped me to deepen my seat and allowed me to wrap my leg around his sides, feeling more secure and effective.
When I ride on a lesson now I feel the need to have my stirrups a couple of holes shorter, and although I feel very secure in my feet I don't have the same 'deep' feeling as I did when I used to ride without stirrups. For example, on a canter transition with a rushy pony lately I found my seat was fine but my legs were wobbling all over the place in the sitting trot.
Now I may just be being fussy
but does anyone know of any exercises I could do on the ground (before my lesson) to get that 'deep', stretchy feeling in my legs, so that I can just get on and feel it straight away?
I hope I've made myself clear enough, reading it back it sounds a little complicated...sorry it's so specific!
Thanks in advance
