First thought - Nice to see someone out riding! Lovely horse, clean too :eek:

2nd thought - No hi-vis? :(

I guess because it's snowy, people aren't whizzing along roads so will pass slower (if at all?)
However hi-vis might give someone that extra bit of warning, and allow them to start braking even sooner, instead of spotting you at the last minute and sliding into your Horse's back legs.

Personally i'd at least be wearing a tabard, if not more.

Opinions? What would you do?
 
OK, so this was taken last winter - but this is how I prefer to ride out in the snow!

I can't help but to think how potentially slippery those roads could have been!:eek:
And yes, no hi-vis.
But lovely shot all the same.
 
I think the road looks a bit treacherous so I would not have ridden on it.

Otoh, it was so cold yesterday that I wore my very thickest,warmest Mountain Horse jacket. And my hi-viz tabard would not fit securely on top of it, so I rode without it. Mind you, the jacket is a bright colour anyway and my snow-coloured horse stands out against the road and hedges when there is no snow lying
 
Not a chance in hell I'd be on road in this and definitely not without hi-viz!

Even if her horse has anti-slip shoes... there have been more than a few cars around here who have proven they don't...

I'd be sticking to fields :)

I'd be wearing hi viz, the glare from snow... Especially if the sun comes out is lethal!
 
I did ride out this morning and the byway was very slippery (both ponies are barefoot, too). I turned off onto the tracks in the woods and went back through the woods. No way would I have gone on the road. My heart was in my mouth just on the byway and it wasn't as bad as in that pic!
 
Forget the Hi Viz - what nutter would ride on a road in those conditions. If u think a horse can slip what do u think a car would do......!!!!! Shocked :-o
 
TBH I always (well, before I stopped riding due to pregnancy) have something hi-viz on front/side/back of horse (e.g. leg bands all round or some on back/something on bridle) and also on me when on roads. Doesn't happen often but always the possibility of coming home separately ;-)

Also fanatical about making sure cyclists in the family wear hi-viz as it doesn't need snow for them to be simply overlooked when drivers are typically looking out for car-sized hazards.

Riding on different surfaces in snow (potentially ice...) well, depends on how well you know landscape and horse.
 
U hear on the news "do not risk driving unless absolutely necessary" - what do these people think? " Oh i know, i'l risk me horse instead" !!! Snow shoes or no snow shoes, hi viz or not. U wanna play ponies in the snow STAY IN THE FIELD!!

Yep I agree what a stupid rider. The hi vis is good for all road users to see and I had a cremello horse that just blended into snow. But the risk of a fall (horse and rider). Anyway I think out off road hi viz is important particularly if hacking, I have gone out and not met a soul and always hoped an Air ambulance would find me if I came off(snow or not).sis was knocked out cold in middle of nowhere and unconscious so it can happen(split her hat too) Nice horse though. I havent read all the other comments, just agree above.
 
Ok fair enough, there's no hi viz, but for all we know she could easily have been taken off the bridleway asked to pose there by the photographer.

As for those of you getting uppity about her even riding on the road...get a bloody grip. That is a tiny sprinkling of snow!

There was less snow than that local to me with cars in the ditches. Not worth it imo.
 
not exactly brilliant advertising to encourage riders to wear hi viz.
as for riding on the roads- i dont no about down there but i havnt hacked out for a good week now as its just so icy on the lanes,,, i think my horse would cope ok as barefoot BUT I have driven the lanes myself and know a car will struggle to stop safely and i aint risking my boy being hit by a car...will have a good ride in field tho when/if we get snow!
 
Does noone else think this looks photo shopped? There are no visible hoofprints behind the horse at all and I just think it looks 'stuck on' rather than being a part of the picture!
