Rider on BBC news website snow pics

Does noone else think this looks photo shopped? There are no visible hoofprints behind the horse at all and I just think it looks 'stuck on' rather than being a part of the picture!

I thought that when I first saw it. Even if it is real, regardless of the hi-viz there is no way on this planet I would ride out on a snowy road with a horse with shoes on, just an accident waiting to happen.

Wow - Someone out riding a healthy happy looking horse
Quick - Judge her!

It’s a picture, she could be steps from the front gate of her yard? Really who cares?
p.s. I am a high-viz nut, but sometimes I just don’t give a fig what others do with their horses

Thank the Lord!

I was driving through Washington yesterday morning while that was laying, I would NOT have ridden on that at all! Than is a sprinkle of snow on ice/ frosty roads! Each to their own I get on bareback and have canter to the gate most evenings......and I dont wear a hat!!

However that white didnt stay long.

No Hi viz?
no knee boots in case it falls or slips
walking down middle of road???

My word!! you are all so rightious. Poor girl minding her own business and you lot coming down on her like a tonne of bricks. So bleddy what, I am sure she was fine. There are far worse things out there for you all to get your knickers in a twist about FGS!!

OOPs just realised you has tongue in cheek, sorry.

Ok fair enough, there's no hi viz, but for all we know she could easily have been taken off the bridleway asked to pose there by the photographer.

As for those of you getting uppity about her even riding on the road...get a bloody grip. That is a tiny sprinkling of snow!

Well said. Equally could have taken hi vis off for 30s for aesthetic reasons, or any number of trivial reasons.

I'd be willing to bet that this lady and her horse have survived their apparantly lethal outing with no adverse effects. Get a grip! Wearing hi vis/knee boots/whatever is an entirely personal choice and failing to do so does not necessarily result in instant annihalation.

To be honest, I wouldn't ride it it. I think that's probaby because I know how much it hurts when a horse slips and falls on a road (at walk) when there's NOT snow there!!! yeah, I'm a bit wussy about it now - probably as a kid I wouldn't have thought about it. You are right about cars though, it's not so bad the horse and rider but car drivers (at least some of them) are idiots in the snow and think exactly as some people have commented here (ie "it's just a sprinkling"). Fact is, if it's cold enough for there to be snow on the road then chances are there's ie there too.

Another reason i just don't think it's worth it. We don't have snow a lot of the time in this country so you don't HAVE to ride out in it. Have a day off.

ETA - I don't agree with the knee boots comment though. I have never put knee boots on a horse ever! If I was that worried my horse was going to fall on it's knees I wouldn't bloody take it on a road or I'd teach it to pick it's blooming feet up! :D

To be fair, it's not as if she is on a dark horse, in dark clothes in half light on a tree lined road. She is pretty obvious and like someone said, it could be 'posed' (well I would hope - I'd be a bit peeved is a random person was taken pics and posted on a national website without me knowing!!)

glad the picture got put here though as on the beeb site looked like she was cantering the horse

Still not completely convinced she isn't :D

She may well be posing for a photo, rather than a random picture.
When I did my Native American photoshoot, I broke LOADS of my rules. I didn't wear a stitch of hi-viz (though I wasn't leaving the yard, so that wasn't so bad), I took my hat off numerous times, I was almost bareback, I had altered his bridle (Badly lol, it looks terrible! I plan to re-do this), I didn't have my whip, I was in a dress and no riding boots!!
I was aware of the risks, but went ahead anyway.

Perhaps she always hacks out with hi-viz and wouldn't usually go out in such weather?

Exactly. I always wear hi-viz myself but this thread is just silly. It amuses me how the outrage and possible 'catastrophic consequences' escalate as the thread goes on :D

gosh yes imagine if a plane flying over head had suddenly got iced up and dropped out of the sky onto her:eek: hi viz and knee boots would have saved her for sure;)

Obviously if someone post a picture we are allowed to comment:rolleyes:.

IIWM

a. I would have a. hi viz
b. knee boots
c. not walking in the middle of the road.

I speak from knowing of a truck lost its breaking in the snow last year slipped sides and wiped out 7 cars as it went.

If this poor girl was in the way she would be x rider.

the pilot would've seen them 3s earlier and managed to re-direct the plane's free fall 18" to the left, missing them entirely :p

Lovely piccy I would wear Hi Viz but I'm sure her dark clothing would be seen.

Also love photo on same link of the little dog jumping - sooo cute :)

The photographer is easily contactable, maybe all those concerned could ask him if he asked the lady to remove her hi-viz, or maybe he could pass on a warning from concerned HHOers!!

Better still, we could force the photographer to hand over the woman's home address, & hhoers could turn up & smack her with knee boots & a hi viz tabard.

What's the betting that someone, somewhere on here, knows, or knows someone who knows where this was taken, or the photographer, or the horse/rider?

I am saying nothing because I think it was posed, if not photoshopped.
