I ride at a BHS riding school roughly once a week, I also compete with a Riding Club at Prelim/Novice dressage and low level show jumping. I'm getting more into the jumping and realising that sooner or later that will probably result in me on the floor.

Question is does anyone else who just rides at RS have their own insurance? Is it worthwhile? If so can anyone recommend any companies? My main risk is if I prang a collarbone or something is my loss of earnings could soon mount up

The riding shcool should have cover for you to ride their horses and if you had rider only cover, Im not sure how that would work as your riding a riding school horse.

I used to have rider only insurance, as I used to ride alot of privatly owned horses and I would never take their word for it that they had sufficiant insurance. I cant remeberwho my cover was with now, but I spose its worth looking into.
I do no though, that rider only insurance doenst cover you if you are working for some one else. Hope that helps abit.

I have rider only with NFU Mutual, my understanding is that it covers any horse that doesn't belong to me and that I'm not paying or paid to ride. I don't believe it covers me if I fall off a riding school horse that I'm paying to ride. Hope that helps. It is good cover and they paid out when I came off the horse that I look after last year.

wow wow wow

It's not for a riding school to pay out if you break a bone unless the riding school was clearly at fault here. Riding is a risk sport and if you want riding schools to stay alive you shouldn't be claiming from them.

I looked at rider insurance and tried to get Pet Plan to create a RS Rider insurance, but they wouldn't.

If you are after 3rd party cover and limb loss, then rider insurance is best.

If you are after cover for a broken bone, then personal accident insurance would suit you better

You need some sort of personal accident / income protection cover, it's not a specialist equine policy although you will have to disclose that you take part in horse riding activities.

I'm self employed and cannot afford to be off work therefore have a policy with Liverpool Victoria.
