Rider/Trainer intercom systems

Quick question.

Has anyone come across wireless intercom systems used between rider and trainer (a bit like systems bike riders use to talk to each other).

I suffer a little with hearing loss and although I have a hearing aid it is difficult to use this when riding as it is greatly affected by the wind.

I am looking into the possibility of getting some sort of intercom system and wondered if anyone had ever come across such a thing before.

The type they use on bikes are powered off a 12v battery attached to the bike and this obviously needs to be smaller!!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Sorry i can't help but wanted to say thats a really good idea, i too struggle to hear when the wind is up

1 of my friends uses 1 in the winter as our yard's outdoor school gets rather windswept. The rider can only hear. The trainer has a conventional 2-way handset.

I will buy 1 before next winter as I have bad hearing (grandfather was deaf, father is deaf, I can never fly again due to ear problem) and my instructor has a very soft voice.

One of my instructors uses a set of walkie talkies, one is strapped to the rider's arm and the instructor speaks through the other one. It's really useful in the wind and saves shouting across the arena! They're really good though and would be really useful with anyone hard of hearing. Only downfall I have found is that I cannot now pretend not to have heard when she asks me to do something I don't want to!

Maybe I should instead buy a 2-way for both myself and my instructor. I could say random things like "Taxi to the Meynall Arms" and "Pizza for delivery to..." in different accents and see whether she would work it out

2 way walky talkies have been suggested to me and I have e-mailed a company I found on the web for information about suitability as a first step.

If anything comes of it I will post on here, and yes - if it works I will also now not have the excuse of not hearing a command! (this could be a bad thing you know!)

I did look into this a while ago and found out that they used them at the racing yards when they are out on the gallops. The most common type is a motorola but I cant remember the spec. I spoke to someone at the British Racing School who was very helpful. If can find the original email with the details on I will PM you. I think they were quite expensive though unfortunately.

My friend bought her's from Argos. Standard pair of walkie-talkies. She wears an earpiece with the handset in an inside pocket.

You can also get them from eBay, Maplin, etc.

I looked these up (Maplin) think they are great would buy one if I was to have more lessons Ive given up lessons as can't hear my instructor (Deaf/Tinnitus) .

I might be wrong but i think henryhorn posted pics of one of CCJs lessons and her instructor uses them might be worth asking her.

My instructors all use headsets with microphones when they're teaching so that you can hear them - 2 big outdoor arenas
