Saw this on Facebook, posting here in case anyone in Pembrokeshire can help.

Approx 14hh dark bay horse with tack on found apparently heading towards Herons Brook.
No box or trailer so must have hacked there.
If anyone knows of anyone hacking out there today who hasn't returned please contact 101 as the police are trying to locate the rider.

There hasn't been an update on the Facebook post so I'm assuming the rider hasn't been found yet.

Hmm... I think if I hadn't heard from a rider , the police should be out with search helicopter ? Someone could be lying in a ditch with broken legs or unconscious!

Sadley I don't think that the rider has been located yet. Have friends that have been out searching the woods tonight with mountain rescue and as of and hour ago still no sign. Think mountain rescue are still out looking lets hope they find them

Hope the rider has been found. This is probably one of the reasons we should have some kind of ID on our tack. If a name, add or mob number was attached to tack it would help.

As far as I know we do not know who the rider is or the horse belongs to. Although they are assuming that there is a lost/fallen rider as the horse was found fully tacked up, for those of you who know the area I understand it was heading back toward Herons Brook.

I agree that perhaps it would be a good idea to have an id tag on the saddle I am certainly going to get one after this.

I bought two brightly coloured luggage tags for both sister and I. I have put the horses name, our name, address and phone number and ICE numbers on the horses ones (attached to saddle D rings) Name, address and ICE number on the rider ones, attached to jacket pocket zips. Just realised while typing this that my rider one is on my summer jacket and needs moving to my winter one

Also if a horse is freezemarked they can trace who the owner is. That's an ID that won't get ripped off by undergrowth etc. Would never have thought of it until I read an article about a search when a horse was found in similar circumstances. Hope the rider has been found ok, it's rather too cold & wet to be lying around injured for any length of time.

No updates on the Facebook post so not sure if the rider has been found yet, I hope so though as temperatures here were the lowest they have been for a while last night!
Definitely a reminder to take as many precautions as you can when hacking out. I have ICE info on myself and my saddle, I use the Locata's, you can put loads of info on them, not just rider details but things like name of yard and vet contact etc so if anyone finds your horse they know exactly where it belongs. I hope the rider was wearing hi viz too so they're easier to find.
Must be horrible for the family, them not coming home, so worrying as anything could have happened :(

An opportune reminder that we should all let someone know where we are going and how long we expect to be out for. The BHS supports a scheme called BEDS where you get a tags with contact information for the horse and the rider. Although knowing who the rider might have been only gets the horse back home faster (not to be sneezed at!). It doesn't help find the rider.

There is an iphone app with a deadman alarm which rings a pre set number if motion ceases for a set period of time. The Landrover / Sonim phone does the same thing. We have that for our daughter when she's out hunting.

Hope this rider is found OK.

Surely they must know who the horse belongs to, if not they would have been contacting all the yards in the area. Someone would know who it belonged to. In my old area the police had a few phone numbers which they rang if they found stray horses. Mine was one of them and I would get calls in the middle of the night. I would drive out and usually recognise the horse or be able to suggest someone because of where it was found.

One point about microchips and freezemarks though, how many people update the companies when they move. I have just remembered that I haven't. Luckily people know where I moved to.

I really hope the rider is found and is not seriously injured.

My tack has dog tags on with phone numbers on, and I always wear hi-viz when heading off up the mountain. People laugh at me, thinking hi viz is just for wearing in traffic, but if I did come off in the middle of nowhere I would like the rescue services to be able to find me quickly.

Hope they find the rider soon, and he/she is ok.

Oh god, really hope the poor rider's been found now :-(

Highlights the value of hi-vis clothing too. Although it wouldn't guarantee being found, it makes the wearer a whole lot easier to spot, especially if fallen into undergrowth.

If the horse is kept at home tho.... If this happened to me unless my immediate neighbours were involved no one would know where she came from either.

I have a dog tag on my old saddle. One side says call vet if hurt fee guaranteed by owner and the other a phone number. Which is great except it's on my old saddle :o

Mobile phone network is rubbish in Wales too.

Any news this morn?

Agree 100 %! I always go out dressed like a beacon!!

So many people still think it's 'uncool' and don't even bother to wear it on roads. :-(

?

You might be surprised, horsey people do notice things. A few of the ones I got called about I didn't know personally. I had passed them out hacking, or noticed them when I drove past.

It was still something I worried about when I had my own field though. To be honest if the horse was sound it would probably have led one of the rescuers home. Never managed to loose one of mine yet, they always know when we turn for home, even on a new route.

Agree re the high viz. I came off a few weeks ago & had to be rescued, luckily I was conscious but even so the people that came out said thank goodness you were wearing your hi-viz waistcoat, we could actually see you

This has made me think about the horse too (my old boy always stops if I come off, looking at me in either surprise or disgust :D ) but this was the 'new' one, and he turned round & buggered off

Really hope the rider is found ok :)
