I am urgently looking for riders who could volunteer to take part in a PhD study conducted at Hartpury College.

Participants would not require to take part in any physical exercise as all measurements will be taken from a mechanical horse which you will be asked to rider for approximately 30 mins.

Participants would be required to travel to Hartpury on the day of the study in January (Date and Time can be Specified by yourself). You will be a competent rider with the ability to complete a novice dressage, PN eventing, or Discovery Showjumping.

We are measuring body composition, body angles whilst on the horse, muscle activation, and rein tension.

Any help would be much much appreciated. If you are at all interested please dont hesitate to contract me for further details and how to register. LOOK OUT FOR US IN HORSE AND HOUND THIS WEEK!!!!

Thank you very much!

I'm willing to travel if the riders would get a good debrief on findings / implications for their own riding? Could you clarify a bit further on that aspect please?

This is part of a major study which aims to highlight the importance of rider based science as an aid to improve our sport not just equine.

The findings from the research will enhance our understanding of the physical demands placed upon riders. It will allow us to identify the relationship between a rider’s posture, body segment measurements and mounted position. This knowledge will enable riders and coaches to better understand how anthropometrics affect the quoted ideal ‘shoulder, hip, heel’ alignment requested by equestrian coaches. In addition, this research will enable us to understand the interaction between horse’s movement, muscular activity and position of the rider throughout the gaits.

I am more than willing to send you a copy of our over all findings and my personal written copy for my masters (muscel activation segment) and the finished work aims to be published in journals in the future however I cannot guarentee that there will be anybody available to give you a discription of your technique or the ability to disclose individual results.

If you would like to be involved and are willing to travel to Hartpury College for a 1.5 hour appointment in early 2013 please contact me.

Im more than willing to take part but am only free on sundays if thats any good? What standard would you want the horse? Only have babies/nearly retrained ex racers or could borrow my old horse back - ex Int eventer?

Thanks

Beth

hi thank you for the reply, sadly we are only testing on mondays in january as this is the when the labs are open... as far as horses are concerned all testing is done on a mechanical horse so no live ones needed!
