I'm planning to start riding again after quite a lengthly break and I've been looking into getting insurance in case I get injured. I've found a few insurers that offer this, but they mostly provide a surprisingly low level of cover for personal accident:
Clearly, £30,000 isn't going to go very far for someone who has a really bad accident and ends up being permanently paralysed.

However MetLife Insurance seems to cover riding injuries under their normal life insurance policy. It looks like you can get up to £250,000 of personal accident cover if you buy 5 'units' of their insurance and riding (even hunting) doesn't appear to be on the exclusions list, which says: 'participation in some sporting activities including playing professional sport and contests of speed'. However the word 'including' here suggests that various other activities might be excluded. They do have this example of an equestrian accident claim on their website: https://www.metlife.co.uk/content/d...tection/Claim_Case_Study_Equestrian_Organ.pdf

I'd be interested to know what other forum members do about rider's insurance cover?

It's worth ringing an insurance broker who specialises in this sort of thing. You can get policies just for personal injuries rather than including public liability that have much higher cover but not all personal accident policies will cover horse related accidents and not all brokers are clued up on what is and isn't covered.

You can also get different types of policy like income protection but again not all cover you for horses.
