Im planning 2 breaks away this year with my horse and friends. One May and one Sept. Just struggling a little to find places to go on the internet. We went to Rhossilli last sept, which was lovely and cheap and of course has amazing beaches, and have done the Ceriog trails near Oswestry a few times.

Ideally looking for somewhere with masses of off road riding, forests, mountains etc, horse turnout, cheapish place to stay or lorry parking as can stay in that.

Anyone any ideas or know of any places that fit that description? willing to travel approx 3 - 4 hours from Mid Wales.

What would have been ideal for you is Bridlerides. Unfortunately the business was sold and taken over by another firm and for some strange reason didn't keep the name, so I can't recall what they are called now.

I had a lovely Bridlerides holiday based in Naunton, in the Cotswolds (could see the Twiston-Davies horses on the skyline or being ridden past). We went all down the Windrush valley and saw lots of places that Jilly Cooper characters coud live in. It was great. Try Goggle Naunton to see if there is anyone there suitable.

There is a BHS B & B book, but I have had heard mixed reports about the quality of the riding. One friend booked a weekend in Herefordshire, only to be told by the hosts that they didn't know any rides as they never hacked out (their eventers), although they could show them some bridlepaths on the map. Not really what you want to hear, and what was so great about Bridlerides as you knew the routes were regularly ridden and there were great instructions.

Kyre Equestrian, Tenbury Wells does B & B and I know for a fact that there are lots of good bridlepath routes from there and I know someone who stayed there and enjoyed it. They have a website.

There are some places that do stay with your horse holidays in the peak district.

Sadly I am on the wrong side of ladybower for the really good ones. I want to beg someone who has a trailer to take me out to them when I get my new horse though (that or I'll plan an epic :p)

We went to a lovely b&b in Angelesy with a riding school attached - we took our horses there a few years ago and rode on the beach everyday.

The horses had there own turnout paddock and were stabled overnight and were on full livery so we had no chores to do! There was also limited off road hacking from the riding stables, but we did not venture further as had my young son in tow.

If you are intersted pm me as will need to look up our booking details.

Thank you for your suggestions and replies, thanks to going on the BHS places to stay, i have (hopefully) found a nice place near Mold, which is approx 2.5 hours away! fingers crossed its ok, if not will pm you Sidney for details of the one you went to.
:)

I go to Rhossili every year, it's fab isn't it. Did you stay at Pilton Moor? if not I'd thoroughly recommend it if you're heading back that way at all. Great facilities for the horses, a bit more rough and ready for the riders (we stay in trailers, although they do have converted shepherd's huts to sleep in too and a nice clean shower and toilet) and Martin and Jo the owners can't do enough to help.

A friend of mine goes somewhere in the Forset of Dean (I think in Coleford?) which she say is wonderful and another has stayed somewhere Brecon way - although that might be a bit close to home for you?

I have friends who have had fantastic holidays in the Forest of Dean and the Marlborough Downs/Ridgeway areas. Lots of places to stay in both, just do a google search.
The Cotswolds around Cheltenham is fantastic riding country too, Cleeve Hill and the woods around Cranham are stunning!

Hi, yes the horses stayed at Pilton Moor, we loved it but as ive ridden on beaches most of my life, i find it a bit boring and much prefer mountains and forests! Shame because it was my friends first beach experience and they loved it and would go back in a heart beat. If we could combine all of it would be fab!
We stayed in the bunk house, which was really cheap at only £19 a night each person! It was a cheap holiday, damn im almost talking myself into going back lol

Thanks everyone else for your help! Im going to look at your links and suggestions, The place i thought looked fab in Mold, seems to show lots of road riding in the photos they have on the rides, so will keep looking!
Oh i'd love to go to the New Forest! A bit too far though :(

Friends of mine take their horses to the New Forest every year... they use Burley Rails Cottage. I am dying to go but am having trouble convincing my oh that we need to take horses on hols!

A bit far for us at 180 miles away! Pity though!

Tugford farm near Ludlow is fab! We have been several times and Bronwen who runs it is lovely and nothing is too much trouble. Hacking is v good and they have a ride round the farm with some jumps or you can go up the long mind for longer rides. Some roads involved but all v quiet and hardly see a car! The cooked breakfast is v good too!! And horses get their own field. If you were thinking of Mold I wouldve thought it wouldnt be too far for you.

Thanks, will have a look at that link now. Mold is approx 2.5 - 3 hrs from us. It took me 4 hours to get to Rhossilli and that was a bit on the far side! I dont mind around 3 hours travelling time.

We barely touch the beach - we go down at a weekend in the summer so it's always too busy unless we get up at 6am and go early. We ride up on the moors and hills -with spectacular views of the beaches as a bonus! If you do go back ask to have Ceri as a guide. She came once and showed us all the routes and as I have a good memory we can now manage without her, but she was invaluable that first time.

Also forest of dean is a fab place for off road hacking (I grew up there and we'd go out for hours on the ponies, out at dawn back at dusk with only having to cross over a couple of main roads). I think Yorkley ec might do some kind of BYO horse riding holidays.
