Ridiculous exclusions on SEIB horse insurance. Is it worth arguing?

Im with NFU, expensive!
Ive just looked at AmTrust but have to have a 5 stage vetting done, on a horse ive owned since 2001, who passed a vetting at time of purchase?????

Seems a lot of hassle tbh.

Is your horse insured for a high value? If you change companies they may want a 2 or 5 stage vetting at the time you take the policy out if the value of the horse is deemed 'high' (normally over £3 or £5k).

You may have owned your horse since 2001 and had a vetting done then, but all that tells the new company is when a vet examined your horse it was fine...11 years ago! An up to date vetting just gives them some kind of security that overal your horse does/doesn't pose any major insurance risk.

I'm with NFU and my horse is certainly not issued for the value I paid and infact if you look in the small print on loss of animal and my LOU they pay out the sum insured or the market value, which ever is less and its up to you to prove the market value, so I don't see how that is a problem. I only have exclusions on pre-existing injuries/illnesses, so basically I can't cliam for the same illness twice or for injury to exactly the same location on the body as I have before. Also be carefull not claiming for smaller vet treatment as if that smaller vet treatment is proved to be linked to bigger vet treatment that you are going to claim for then they will class it as a pre-existing condition.

I would stay away from e&L isurance or any of their associated insurance companies such and horse-insurance.co.uk.

I had insurance with SEIB - I recently cancelled it and moved the horse to Amtrust.

I had my horse 5 stage vetted and they noted a front foot imbalance (among a few other effusion related things) and they immediately excluded the front feet. They did say they would remove it if I could show that the horse had been correctly shod after 6 months. This they did do infact, however I cancelled my insurance with them because they refused to pay a claim for a bone scan which among other issues, did find some hot spots in his hocks, (which, surprise surprise they had excluded based on his 5 stage vet). Instead of not paying the hock stuff, but shelling out for the other non related stuff, they refused to pay the whole bill - all £1,600 of it.

TTFN SEIB - my business has moved to Amtrust. You had your chance and you blew it.

Go elsewhere if I was you.

My horse is insured for £500 and they still want a 2 stage vetting - why can't they just request his medical history and assess from that?

We've given up with insurance and put the money into an account each month.

^^This^^

We do have 3rd party liability through the BHS gold membership, but I got sick of exclusions being added '....front fore not included'.....'...back leg not included....'...it got ridiculous.

We also have a very large credit card limit (0.00 at the mo I'm pleased to add!) for any emergencies (touches wood) that raise their heads...
