The spooky pony went to his first two shows today! Yes, two, since I found out yesterday that several of the Sunday lessons were being combined into a little dressage competition.
After fighting with tinsel, plaiting bands, and an exceedingly long mane and tail in the wind, we hacked about 1/2 hour along roads to the first show (a local X-mas show). First class was equitation...and we came first!!!............................which is marginally less exciting when you know that we were the only ones in the class...nevertheless, beyond making faces at a corner full of jump standards and at some flower pots, the spooky pony behaved very well. He even let them attach a rosette! The little trophy was too much for him though; the judge had to hold on to it while we had a trot around.
Next was the mane and tail class, again hotly contested...by TWO horses, the other a gorgeous welshie. We won again! I think it may have been the tinsel mane extensions...no luck attaching the rosette this time though: the spooky pony executed a spectacular sideways leap.
Another 1/2 hour's hack took us to our riding school. We were first up for the test: Prelim 10. I was so very proud of him: he went about as well as he could possibly go for me at this point, with only one little break in canter to have a spook at the judge's table.
Then, he ate an entire haynet and copious treats while we waited for the results...
We got third, with a mark of 133/220 (60.5%). I'm so pleased! Many many neck scratches for the spooky pony!
I'll try to get a pic up when I manage to get it off my phone.
