I dont want tO as I know I am far too heavy...

However everyone that sees new pony says that i should get on him and give him a good run!!!!!

He is not very fine and infact has good bone, an I being too wishy washy with him and just get in for 5 mins?

My gut instinct says no . But would it hurt him?

I was discussing this with a friend on Friday she is 10 stone and rides her kids Sec B but in walk and a little trot and thats all. Personally thats her choice. I honestly believe that I can work a pony much better on long reins than on its back worrying about how heavy I am.
FWIW I sold a very very good 14.2hh pony because I couldn't keep my weight below 10 stone and IMO it wasn't fair on her.

sorry hun im 8 stone and i think im not so much to heavy but to big find a good little jockey to give him a blast - jesus if daughter was a few(!) years younger she would be knawing at your leg lol x

Maybe built is the wrong word, better equipped then. If pony kicks off when you get on then you're too much for him but i really think that a 15 minute walk with a bit of trot for whatever reason isn't going to hurt him. Lots of small ponies have adults on for schooling purposes. I know one at the mo who will be broken and schooled by adults as he is rs destined and they need him 100% off the lead rein which can't be said for that many small ponies as kid riders arent strong enough to school them effectively.

mmmm so baggy tease me with your 14.2 you sold as i have become a pony person rather than my normal TB type mmmm tease me and tell lol xx

i am 8.6 stone now and ride my 12.2hh but my sharers are both between 9 and 9.5 stone and they are fine on him. my limit is 10 stone. and hes a chunky NF

I'm a great believer that ponies are under estimated in their weight carrying abilities, but I still think 12 stone plus tack is too much for a little section A.
I saw a bloke same weight get on one and it staggered as he got on, he was clearly to heavy. Yes the pony re balanced himself, yes he walked on, but he really wasn't happy.
Stick with your gut instincts x

Gonna disagree with you all on this one guys.
sec as were originally bread to pull coal out of the mines so (most) are sturdy little so and sos.
i was always taught that the general rule for weight is a stone per hand (bear in mind thats fir dead weight not a rider who moves and maintains own balance so feels lighter to horse.
you are defo on the upper limits for weight but you wont hurt for a few minutes so long as your not doing anything stupid.
i used to ride a sec a for years at 10 1/2 stone and it never done her any harm i fact shes was one of the happiest and healthiest horses i ever knew

thank god for comman sence

theres the best part of 2 stone difference though between you and the OP.

yes, designed to pull, not carry, same as shires etc.

and lets face it 12 stone is 12 stone, how your sat makes no odds, you dont magically lose weight just cos you sit up tall its daft to say that.

of corse it makes a differance if you are not a dead weight. if you try carrying a 6 stone person who holds on to you and trys to make your life easier trust me it is easier the carryin a 6 stone bag of rocks. both of which i have done

I reckon too heavy. I'm 8 stone fully clothed and have to be very cautious schooling my brothers Sec A. He goes okay under the saddle which distributes the weight nicely but he clearly was uncomfortable when I tried him bareback and got all 8 stone on a small surface area, he however goes amazing bareback for my 4 stone brother. This might sound rude but at 12 stone are you going to fit in a saddle that fits a small pony? I find it a snug fit with a size 8 bum. :o Find a competant but slightly anorexic teenager if the 5 year old isn't schooling him effectively IMO.

i think it makes a difference in the sense that 12 stone can feel 12 stone or it can feel heavier, not lighter.

but 12 stone is far too heavy for a section a! i wouldn't put anywhere near that on one, plus it won't be 12 stone on it's back either when you factor in clothes and tack.

You've got to be kidding?

This must be a joke.....I know what 12 stone looks like and it's not small, or slender no matter what height.

I am 9 stone and wouldn't consider riding a section a for any length of time.

Those that would and have at 12 stone post a pic or vid to show how easily the pony is carrying you as i do not believe it for a second.
