And also, Spikymare- your horse is a horse, not a human, so why would you place human values on a horse? *waits to be beaten up*

Well, I'm not going to beat you up; you're absolutely right. They're HORSES not humans. PF happens to love the rain and always goes really well when the weather is horrible (OK, that doens't happen very often out here
i had a lesson in the rain this morning and despite my best efforts to dry him off beforehand, he was still wet when i tacked up. i had no choice! i dont see a problem with it, and he didnt seem to even notice any difference!
If my horse is wet because its raining then to be honest I'd probably leave him in the field and not be getting soaked myself
Seriously....I was always taught that if the saddle and bridle area are clean then no need to let them dry. We have sweat scrapers to get excess water out or an old towell does the job.
Speaking of thatching, does anyone remember making wisps out of hay or straw? I think that was used to remove surface water before thatching??

The saddle bothers me less than the bridle, tbh I am a tad concerned about the bridle rubbing if the hair is wet.

So by that logic, do you therefore never ride in the rain, never let your horse sweat up and stop riding the second it rains? Because surely rain is more likely to get under the bridle than under the saddle (assuming you start with a dry horse)....and if you don't, what's the difference between starting with a dry horse and it getting wet in the rain or sweating, and starting with a horse wet from the rain? Why would the horse which starts wet be more likely to get rubs than the hrose which starts dry then gets wet? I find the whole concept really bemusing!

Ooops....Sorry if i offended anyone! It's a bit of a sticky subject really,I guess we all have differing opinions on how we treat our horses! I was just offering mine and if that's not what some people agree with then thats up to them! And that's not being holier than thou Muffinino!
I wasn't offended, I was just asking, no need to come over all defensive. You came cross as holier than thou by saying we were being selfish by riding wet horses but gave no real explanation as to why. I don't think there was need to write my name like that either.
If you read the whole of my post, there was full explanation(all be it applying human thouyghts to horses), i guess we should just leave it as everybody has their own opinions on these things! My post, were my thoughts on it,after doing this horse thing for nearly 30 years!
