I have personal injury cover as part of my horse insurance but not sure exactly what I'm covered for...

Does anyone know if it would be useful re broken leg- e.g. alternative care of horse etc? I'm with NFU btw.

Any experiences?

My experience of it is that its an absolute waste of space, ( although was a while ago i tried to use it!) I broke my pelvis and ribs falling off my horse and at that time the personal accidetn insurance with the NFU only covered if i had lost an arm or leg lost the sight in an eye or was completely disabled! so was a bit of a waste of money.
Did notice you mentioned private medical care in another post did you have your op private or NHS?? Only ask as we have BUPA, OH had an emergency op to pin his collar bone in June (done by NHS ) and our Bupa paid out £100 for each night he was in.
Hope you arent to sore and they have given you some good pain killers! xx

Had a feeling that might be the case

Will give them a call in the morning.

I had to have the op NHS and the consultant wouldn't move me so get £150 a night I was in which will go towards horsey care costs...

Is a small help that you'll get something from BUPA, OH was in 9 days in total ( 7 waiting for the op) so was nice to get some thing back. Hopefully they will have changed the personal accident it since i tried to claim will keep my fingers crossed for you. You will have to try and bargain with L154 didnt she buy a little scooter thing to get about on when she broke her leg??

nfu is fine with horses but as far as rider insurance goes it stands for No F**king use. basically you have to be nearly dead or missing a limb in order to claim.

you really need to go with a company that does specialist personal accident insurance to be covered for things like broken legs.

When I broke my collar bone I rang to see if I could go private under me horse insurance but unfortunately they only cover permanent disability or death and so I couldn't pursue it.

lzt,
mum claimed when she shattered her ankle - got so much per night she was in hosptal and then some other amount for when she was out of hospital. It wasnt half of waht she used to earn but at least it was something. She claimed both times for the 1st and the 2nd op
Hope youve managed to get it sorted with them

I have a personal accident insurance & they pay out no matter what causes the accident & along similar lines of th eothers as in so much per night in & off work. They came round to renew it a while ago & stupidly didnt claim when I got smashed up in a riding accident (I never gave it a thought! DOH!) They said one family the Father broke his arm in car accident so claimed & then his son made a miss of his trials bike & did a leg, ankle, arm & collar bone so got a very nice payout. Lad thought he was going to have a whale of a time on the 4K they paid out for him but Father said I pay so I get!!!!
Think it is CIS that I am insured with. Will check if you wish??
