Im 2 1/2 months past ACL surgery and still struggling a bit. Ive been told can ride at 3 months but can't quite imagine it as still in some pain, some swelling despite weekly physio. Any advice when right time to return as getting quite depressed that can't ride and have gone back to work now.

I rode much earlier than that but I do have a very high pain threshold! The only thing that really helped me progress was physio in the hydro pool. I would say it took about 2 years for it to stop aching all the time. Steroid injections directly into the knee are unpleasant but also help a lot. Hope you're back on board soon and things go well.

I wasn't allowed to ride for 6 months after mine, as the medics consider riding to be a contact sport (in case you fall off), and apparently the new ligament doesn't build up to full strength until then. I also did physio for all that time. Although it was a very long 6 months it did mean I was in a good place when I was allowed to ride again. My knee still hurt until I had built up a lot more muscle, which was probably about another year. Sorry, don't want to put you off, but it's not a short term fix.
