Ok I had a car crash on friday. I was hit from behind whilst stationary. I have a physio appointment tommorow night (she also rides which might help).

I want to get back on Ship, however not in the best of condition and he can bolt when you first get on so don't think its too good an idea just yet.

Has anyone had a car crash and how long before you were back on board. Its costing me a fortune for Full livery and exercise at the moment. Hubby is doing as much as he can but he cant lunge and I cant hold him if he pulls.

sorry feeling a bit fed up and want to do bits with pony but cant do anything at the moment.

Not been in that situation before so i wouldnt know how long it will take before your back in action, but ide like to wish you a speedy recovery!

Eeek, nasty - hope you feel better soon. I'd imagine it is very individual (recovery time). But I wouldn't rush to ride until you're strong enough as you could make yourself a lot worse.

unfortunitally not as you have to use the yard grooms (they are self employed). My husband is doing as much as possible but the expensive bit is paying for him to be lunged. No one has ever ridden him except me and he can bolt. We were about to sort this as a couple of the girls/ grooms agreed to get on but only after I had ridden so this can not happen now!

I've unfortunately been there with this one and was off work for some considerable time. I couldn't lift or bend and my neck was in one of those collar things. It drove me mad and the fact that I couldn't do the simplist of things for myself and my horses.

I'm glad that I didn't push it though and put down on my claim against the other person who had hit my car from the rear also, all costs relating to the injury, which included paying someone to look after the nags, lost pay and costs of getting transport everywhere. It paid off though and a few years later I accepted a nice chunk of money.

On the bad side, I still get neck pain and would have preferred to give all the money back and not have had the accident and the resulting pain.

I've also been unlucky with other injuries and can only stress to do as much as you are really able to and NO MORE! All it does is slows the healing process and could mean that you have problems for longer.

Not what you want to hear. I just hope that you feel better soon and can go back to looking after Ship.

Thanks, bugger just done all my road work to start getting fit to do our first event dont think that will be for a while now. I just feel so useless, but I do want it to go away think I might be resting quite a bit then

Thanks I might be using it lots more once I can hold a lung line (or the yard grooms will be!) Ship wont know whats hit him

.

trying to be positive!!!

I have to say that was my favourite bit about using it - it meant that when Josh decided to have a buck and a plunge around he couldn't actually get away or do anything horrible

It really is making my office smell today though

(I brought it to work to get the right sized packaging)

Thats a shame it would be good if you know anyone that can ride with the attitude of if you fall of get back on if this makes any sence .

yes in the arena, It is blind panic that you are going to be horrid to him (something must have happened in Ireland) he is loads better now and only does it occasionally with me but anyone new seems to be an issue he is very sensative in his back too.

Sorry - I'm just glad I have an office to myself, I think my work colleagues are even more glad

It is better now I have stuffed it into a padded envelope - just be prepared when you open it up

First off, don't try to do too much, there is no point making your injuries any worse, and secondly keep a record of all receipts and costs - you should be able to claim all this additional expense from the insurance.
It took me about 6 weeks to get back on board (broken collar bones and ribs plus whiplash) it wasn't until a few years later that it became clear it was a bit more than just whiplash as the two discs in my neck that had been injured became worse and I lost all the feeling in one hand and arm

O God thats not good, I am keeping recipts the advantage of self employed grooms and a very organised yard just costs loads, so glad I moved from my old yard as they would have been useless so fingers crossed i will be able to at least lunge in a couple of weeks even if I cant lift I wont have to pay for everything!!

This happened to me last year!!! The crash was severe enough to write off my car (a Golf). I had 6 sessions of physio over the space of about a month and by the end of that the physiotherapist said I could ride, but to take it steady. However, I was also pregnant at the time and by the time I was ready to get back on, my bump was too big!!!

Just take your time with it because whiplash can be slow to heal. My lad is also strong and can take a hold, so I probably would have left it for another couple of weeks.

Incidentally, if you are seeking compensation from the other driver you can claim back the full livery and riding expenses. Just make sure you get receipts from your YO and whoever exercises your horse. I got all my costs back, no quibbles.
