Riding after having a baby

Hi everyone,

I just had my baby 11 weeks ago and am looking to get back into the saddle again. Am not sure what’s the best way to do so!

Should i go back to doing lessons at a riding school or should I buy another horse? Something that is a bit older and has done a bit.

My last horse was put to sleep before my son was born.

Congratulations!

I’d suggest getting some gentle time back in the saddle to get your muscle memory back. A suitable RS with a sympathetic instructor might well suit. You might feel happier with a steadier neddie at first. Then take it from there.

I wouldn't recommend buying atm as it's the time which is hard to guarantee.
If you had them before the baby absolutely you make it work but I wouldn't have a baby and then buy a horse.

I reckon if you haven't rode for a bit and had a baby it's probably best to get some practice in before horse shopping. Given the time of year, lots of people are looking for loaners to help so might a good way to get back riding fit and see how horses work with child care.
