Riding again after doing ligaments in your ankle

Any recommendations on the best way to tape?!
There are some good diagrams on physio sites showing the correct way to do it.

However I just take 1" micropore and wrap it round my instep and ankle in a figure of eight until it is held tight and doesn't move 😀
I became allergic to the kinesiology tape I had. It brought my foot out in pompholyx. 🙄

You might well find things different for you but for me the acavallo opera stirrups really helped and I had a physio tape up my ankle twice a week for a couple of weeks (this was within the first month though) and he used a LOT of tape. The taping reduced/ simplified but I still kept tape on most of the time as I struggle not to be active and it gave my ankle the support it needed. I would really recommend getting a physio to show you how to tape it.

I also used my mountain horse long boots as they had more ankle support.

My partners Mum is a physio so she helped me tape it up last night! I don't need tape day to day so don't want it to weaken by me keeping it on 24/7. I'm on week 7 now. I really only need it on for riding or walking to the field on the rutted ground so not sure what to do!

How did you tape yours? Any particular way? Did you have tape on daily or just when you rode?

I kept it on until it got disgusting and then reapplied for weeks. Maybe not correct, but I had things to do. 🤣

I also didnt bother to go find out what I had actually done so mixed and matched wrapping techniques from the internet to find one that worked best for me.

I am 99% certain I did my achilies, and my ankle was also huge, so I did one strip from under the heel straight up the back at about 60% stretch, one strip down under the heel from above both ankle bones on the side, then one from the back to the top of the foot over the ankle bones.

This is funny! I have mine pretty much wrapped the same apart from the bit up the back. Did you just take it off eventually once it started to feel better?

I eased out of it (and added the drawing the alphabet and stair heel drops), first taking it off at night, then at home and walking about, then yard stuff, then running. I had to strap for jumping and 2 point still for ages though, short stirrups and all the weight down it was a killer.

I really only need mine for walking up the field to the horses and riding so feel a fraud having it on all day but my physio said don't take it off until its ready to come off as it will hurt!!
