Who rides and listens to MP3 player or Ipod? I don't all the time but will do occasionaly whilst I'm schooling, would never do it whilst I'm hacking though (for obvious reasons) and wouldn't do it if someone else was in the school.

Discuss.

I do... kind of (so i voted 'other'). I've got a battery powered i-pod speaker dock thingy which i play out loud sometimes when schooling. Never listen to it through earphones though, i wouldnt out hacking either, like to hear whats going on around me.

ahh it makes me concentrate so much more and I never get wound up when i've got the music playing, i just keep calm and try again

I tried to but my earphones kept falling out when I put my hat on!! I wanted to listen to my ipod while schooling when I was still quite nervous about riding on my own.

Only when schooling in the arena and only ever one ear in. (I wrap the wire around the harness of my hat a couple of times before putting earplug in and this seems to help stop it falling out!) Never when out hacking or when jumping. Will do it when others are in the school, but as I've only one ear "plugged in" I can still hear others if needs be.

I find having the music on helps me ride for longer and concentrate better.

,reason being i like to have the radio playing so we both listen to it and relax, also i have known myself schooling with headphones in and a track has come on and i have actually forgotten i am riding and not pubbing/clubbing and poor old H was like "what you doing mum?" seriously messes with your riding mojo

I put no but i would like too I just haven’t got myself organized. I think it would help me to relax and not listen out for things that might upset my horse.

I have taken up listening to podcasts all the time when in the school now, my boy is having to do a lot of walk work and it breaks the bordom!

No, because:
1. At the moment I don't have a horse and am just having lessons, think my instructor would be a bit miffed if I had headphones on although she occasionally puts music on in the indoor, especially at christmas.
2. The headphones don't stay in at the best of times so probably wouldn't when riding.
3. I think it is dangerous when hacking or sharing the school as you need to listen for hazards. Even on bridleways with it turned down it could be the difference between you hearing a cyclist whizzing up behind you or not.

But the idea of listening to radio 4 and riding is heaven...... horse might think I'm a bit bonkers if I start giggling along to paul merton on just a minute though.......

From my phone, yup

Wouldn't with iPod really, just don't think it's safe or convenient, and I like to hear whats going on - especially if it's going to give me advanced warning that the horses on the other side of the hedge are charging around, and Danny might want to join in!

I listen to music whilst schooling as I really hate flat work, so I get tense.
Listening to music keeps me calm, if you don't have it very loud you can still hear what's going on.

I don't actually understand why people have to permanently listen to music! On our yard 50% of the liveries walk round with music constantantly blasting their eardrums.
When I'm on the yard or schooling or out hacking with my horse, I don't need music. I have the countryside and the company of my horse.
We seem to be in an age where you can't go anywhere or do anything without music and I don't understand why!!

Hardly anyone on our yard ever listens to music that I've noticed! Odd person down at the yard midday on their own, maybe, but then we only have a small group of teenagers on the yard (who yes, will be heard playing annoyingly loud music occasionally, but not all hours thank god!) and I know that I rarely listen to my iPod at the yard unless I feel like it.
Tis good fun to ride to music though! Makes a change from the boring norm

Maybe more people should try it?! I know plenty of horses who love music

I know what you mean, some people do seem surgically attached to their earphones......

I don't really get it, I rarely listen to music, I like music but don't need it all the time. It can get so repetitive too, that was why I converted to radio 4 (I'm not an old fogey I promise) I like something intelligent to listen to in the car and when I'm cooking rather than the top 20 on repeat. Good comedy, drama, literature, news, documentaries, etc etc etc can't beat it, in fact it is often better than the TV.

You get the occasional horsey storyline in the archers too, Chris Carter's a farrier, and they have a team chasing team.......

Anyway now I have completely destroyed my street cred round here I'll be off!

In my defence I do have a VERY long commute.
