I am having an arena built soon and I am very confused as to which surface is the best for my requirements.

The contractor is trying to help as much as he can - he can get hold of any type of surface.

So far i have nearly decided on sea sand with pure rubber chips. Now, he has offered me large rubber chips (around 4" long) apparently they have just come out, has anybody used these? I really want a surface that I ride on and not in and gets too deep.

I ideally would like a sand/fibre mix but not sure how this rides.

Any advice would be great. Thank you

I love mine.........5 inches of white silica sand and 2 inches of Spring-Tek rubber. It really is fab and never gets deep! I thought sea sand got deep?!?! I might be wrong.

I looked into those long rubber strips but found they were very slippy when wet and the kick back was awful from it.

thank you very much - thats put me off the long rubber chips, i never thought about that when its wet!! You could be right about sea sand riding deep.

We have silica sand (dredged from the sea) and spring trak rubber chunks, love it, never gets deep, never puddles and is perfect for us.

Personally haven't ridden on big chunks but have ridden on flat shreds and absolutely 100% prefer chunks. Also a friend put down shreds and found it very hard to level (even though hubby is a farmer and has equipment) they ripped it up after 8 months and replaced it with rubber chunks
