Riding at night on the roads

Yes I do with lots of lights. Tend to go out in daylight and be coming home in the dark in the depths of winter. Rarely see any traffic and my horse is fine in the dark. I have lots of high viz too and I don't see that its any more dangerous than during the day, you are well lit up in car headlights, much more visible than in day light.

Personally i wouldnt but then my yard is straight out onto a 60mph road that isnt lit and is regularly used as a race track, i have to ride at least half a mile either way on this road to get to a quieter place, its bad enough in daylight let alone at night!

We had a near miss on this road some years ago 4 of us nearly got wiped out and that was in daylight!

Sadly once dark nites are here all be down to weekend riding and every other friday when i finish earlier :(

I'd rather not risk my horses or me than continue to hack to preserve riders as legitimate road users.
If I was based near very quiet straight road network I may feel safer......
Nothing prepares you for the horror when you get hit by a car. And my accident was only at about 20mph. Horse has been left badly scarred and is frightened of cars.

Personally I'd never consider riding in the dark or even at dusk. Pointlessly dangerous IMO. Even with hi-viz, my nightmare would be seeing my horse chucking me off and galloping off into the pitch black distance! I worry about taking my dog out without a lead at night for the exact reason that if she ran off, I couldn't easily see/find her!
