I jumped my youngster on Sunday and my riding was all over the place - am def not helping him and I really need some more lessons.

The problem is that I only see him at weekends as I live in London during the week - what I really need is lesson during the week. My problem is that the riding schools nearby don't tend to do the sort of lesson I'm after

Anyone got any good ideas? I live and work in SE London - so bits of Kent are possible... Am 5 mins from London Bridge - on the train - so could also go anyone that is on the luine from there?

I think a weekly private lesson is what I need... Then more lessons at the weekend on my own horse in Suffolk (obviously!). Poss a freelance instructor? But then would need to find a horse to have the lesson on...

I've been there - it is good and they do have some nice horses... but the lesson's I had were quite 'riding schooly' if that makes sense lol! To be fair to them - i just joined in with their advanced ride - have tried a private lesson - so maybe if I did that.....

Do they have any good instructors there that I could ask for?

Hehe, I have a very nice horsey that needs riding and know of some freelance instructors!?? I live in Surrey Quays and the pony is near Greenwich!

Seriously:

I know that Frogpool Manor have a couple of good instructors - I asked just the same question a couple of weeks ago. I also searched through the classifieds on the Frogpool site, and found a couple. What sort of lessons are you looking for? Flatwork or jumping?

Mainly flatwork I reckon - the jumping can follow. My problem is that the last time I had regular lessons and competed alot was in 1999... So am a bit rusty as have been a happy hacker doing the occasionaly hunter trail.. Did some BSJA last year on loan horse - but am realsing that I am rubbish these days and need shouting at.

I have had two lessons at Wildwoods, and intend to return for more. I found the instruction very in detail, and both horses to be very interesting, forward going stamps. Both of these lessons were jumping lessons (they specialize in SJ) and unusually for a riding school, the fences were up at 3'6 plus, with some meaty spreads.

Prices were fairly reasonable for the area - £45 for a private hours jumping lesson.

I am doing my stage 4 preparation, so have tried out a fair few riding schools - and I'd probably say that Wildwoods is the only one, along with Huntley (in glos, where i have done the bulk of training) are the only two that i wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

There's a Mary Wanless instructor in Kent I think - Suzanne? Try Mary's website for name and contact. At least then you'd know that you were sitting correctly and not adversely influencing your horse!

I read your post regarding lessons...

I would recomend Oldencraig in Surrey. The lady in the shop (Tracy) is scary at first but once you are a regular up there she is excellent, really helpful. Oldencraig have fab school horses and lots of different instructors. If you want to seriously progress I would recommend it. It is very different to the usual bitchy, gossipy yards you find! Very professional and you will find you learn more just by being there and watching the pros at work.

Otherwise, I learnt to ride at Chelsfield Equestrian Centre near Orpington (zone 6, about 20 mins train from London Bridge then taxi/bus). The instructors are also good but its not half as "flash" as Oldencraig and is a bit more of a riding school.

My own instructor (British Dressage trainer and a List 2A judge) also has a small yard near Orpington and a few schoolmasters. She is a super teacher, makes you work hard!

Hope that helps.
