Yesterday when I got to the yard it had been raining heavily and it was obviously going to rain heavily again pretty soon, so I just slapped a halter on each of my two horses, jumped on and whizzed them round the village for 30 minutes and thankfully missed the next rainstorm.
I never, never see anyone else out riding bareback. I've done it regularly since I had my first pony and in the winter due to lack of daylight hours and filthy muddy horse I ride bareback most weekdays and only use the saddle at weekends. To me, it's just a normal thing to do. When I was a kid we all used to ride out bareback a lot.
What's happened to it? Why does nobody ride bareback any more? Or is it just around here?
