Hello

I would like to get some books - jumping and flat to help improve me along with the lessons I already have.

I think my technical knowledge re riding is poor/very basic and I'd like to know the more about how things should be done and why (I really hope this is making sense).

I feel like I ride without a lot of thought...I.e a warm up for me is a bit walk, trot, canter. Then ride round a bit aimless.

Any suggestions/advice welcome

Xx

The "100 ways to" series by Susan McBane.

There's 100 ways to improve your riding/improve your horse's schooling and three others around horse care and management. You can usually get them for a few pounds second hand on ebay and amazon.

Six steps to a schooled horse by Susan mcbane is good too

Claire Lilley has some good books. One is about the Scales of Training, one about the psychology of horsemanship and one about perfecting basics spring to mind.

Ernest Dillion has a show jumping book that's good too.

From warming up to cooling down by Susan mcbane is a good book to help you develop structure. As in teaching you why certain things should be done and how.

There's another series "101" that has 101 schooling exercises, horsemanship exercises, jumping exercises, riding exercises and dressage exercises. They should give you some plans for riding and training
