I am in the market for new competition / 'best' boots and don't really know where to start. I have had my Bromonts for ages (on my second pair) and they are still serviceable but not really smart enough for competing any more. I got a nice birthday present and christmas present and plan to get something good - I don't mind spending say £400.

I'm not a huge fan of diamante and patent, and would like something with a slender calf. I don't really mind whether they are laced or unlaced, but I do want a stylish shape - I will probably only know what I mean by that when I see it!

I like these a lot, as a guide to the sort of shape.

Celeris are around £500 but are fully M2M and everything is to your specification :). De Niro also do M2M within your budget.

I always stick with Ariats as I find them so comfy, although I replaced my Bromonts with the Volant twisted zip style ones and have gone through several events from hell where they cut into the back of my heels, however suddenly at the last event they stopped doing that and are now super comfy as were my Bromonts. I like the style of them, they're different and modern without being too over the top.

This is spades, I love my Bia boots! Desperate for another pair!

They are fully customizeable, too, and all included in the price. Can't rate them enough. It's a bit of a wait for them, though! But totally worth it :)

I love de niros, and really did splurge! But they are the most beautiful boots i've ever seen and worn. I got quite a few extra bits which made the price shoot up but the more plain ones are just beautiful and lovely quality

I have Equitectors (I think they're the Ladies Classic) that I bought second hand, they were M2M for the lady I bought them from and I just got very lucky with the sizing! They're lovely boots, excellent quality and very smart.

I had a rash moment and treated myself to some Brogini boots a few years ago. Took a while to wear in but they are soooo beautiful! Didn't even have my own horse at the time...!

I splashed out on Celeris, and they are not really worth the money. I had trouble with the zip from day 1, and the repair shop said it was poorly put in. The boots are fully M2M, but they were very VERY tight when I got them, and they've never loosened up to be comfortable. I just had a small elastic panel put in at the top, because they were too tight. And the zip has gone again. AGAIN. Go elsewhere.
