Riding Boots - Sorry, I would imagine your fed up by now :)

Right, No one in my family is horsey. And get swept away when I need to talk to them.

I cant decide what to get? Long boots Or Chaps?

Chaps:
Cheaper,
Would be able to ride without chaps in summer.
Not Waterproof
Can replace chaps without having to replace boots
Better movement
Not waterproof (I love jumping in puddles/mud!)

Long boots:
More expensive,
Smarter IMO.
Waterproof

i always rode in mucker boots or short boots and chaps but last year had to buy long boots for competions etc.

since buying them (and they were only a bottom of the range leather pair, bout 50 quid) i cant ride in anything else. i dont think boots and chaps can compare to the support and comfort you get in long boots.

saying that i treated myself to a pair of ariat short boots last year and they are possibly the best ever things ive ever put on my feet so i must go out and buy chaps to make use of them.

at the end of the day its just trial and error, only you will know what feels best.

and for easiness and comfiness go with m long boots all the time, they are also smarter and imo last longer

I currently ride with chaps but just ordered ariat bromonts because

1) they look smarter he he he
2) I feel that I will have more leg control than with jod boots and chaps.....hope so cos I'm trying to improve my riding and told my OH that these boots would help, also mentioned that sticky bum jods would too

Depends what riding you do, if you compete then having a nice pair of long boots is good as they look a lot smarter. Also will you also be wearing them round the yard. I have short boots and chaps for general use. Then my long boots for competitions/lessons.

I have arait boots and gaiters for on the yard, lessons clinics etc, then sergio grasso boots for competing. I could not get the same pair of boots to do both jobs.

I love Ariats. I have a brown pair for every day with brown gaiters (English Gaiter Company) and a black set for competing. They are smart and comfortable.

Mountain Horse boots wreck my feet. I recently tried tham again after a gap of 4 years and within a week, the arches of my feet were struggling.

I used to ride in Mountain Horse Classic lace up boots with chaps and I loved them they were great. I had a pair of long MH boots and found them slippy against the saddle. THEN I went on ebay and found a brand new pair of Regent long leather boots for £35!! They are fab and give me so much security in my lower leg (feet used to flap all over). I would definately recommend long boots although they might feel a bit stiff at first if they're not what you are used to. Only problem is they are not always as comfy for around the yard (and you dont want to wreck them!) and can be a bit warm in summer. Im getting a pair of Ariat short boots and gaiters or chaps for summer general use and will keep long boots for lessons and winter riding. Sorry for the conflicting advice but honestly everyone is different and you won't know until you try. I would say buy the best you can afford and have them properly fitted. You can always ask for the other kind for birthdays / christmas.
