they have done me well. So thinking about replacing them and don't want to spend huge amount dosh - so any ideas??
boots and chaps or boots (like zips in back ones) ??? and if i go for chap can i still do BD with them???

You must mean gaiters? Leather gaiters and short boots are allowed in BD, but suede or part suede chaps are not allowed. Tredstep gaiters are lovely and will last!

I have boots and gaiters and i really like them. I had gaiters made for me about 5years ago now and they are still in great condition - i only use them for competitions and lessons tho.
I have the ariat boots with a zip at the front that i wear with them.

Really comfy and you cant tell im in boots and gaiters as my spur straps cover the join.

I have boots and suede chaps.

Boots are dublin zip up front ones and so confortable, keep you cool when its hot and warm when it not!!

Chaps or cheapo dublin ones as they're only for yard and ridden work not competeing.

Have you replaced your boots yet??? It's just my boots do get hard life as use for all comps, lessons and hunting, but do clean all the time to help them.
And i go through boots (with chaps) every year around year, what sort of cost are we talking about??
