Do you go to your riding club annual meeting?
My mum and I have just joined a riding club and would like to go to the meeting to meet people etc. as we don't know anyone in the club but not sure if we should as we have only just joined.

Yeah I do. Just go, it’s a great way of meeting people and finding out what the club has planned.

makes life so much easier to actually have members at the agm and would be a good chance to make yourself known to committee and other members.

Hot tip...... when it comes to resignations/elections..... make sure you are in the loo/at the bar/looking the other way

Yes I go occasionally, at ours they hand out some of the cups and prizes so it's nice to cheer everyone on who's done well and also you get a chance to thank the committee for all their hard work. And also we have an American supper afterwards so more crisps, chocolate and loads of savoury goodies than you can shake a stick at!

Ditto ester, otherwise it is just the committee talking to their selves again! In fact try and go to the monthly meetings as well as the agm, the more the merrier

Hi Vikki89,

Yes, great idea to let Chairperson know you're coming, then introduce yourself to him/her on arrival (ask someone to point out Chair, but then again, they may/may not know who Chair is)....
If they do know Chair, it means they've got a cup or something (getting cups is what AGM is all about)
I've personally found RC AGMs very hard work, + very, very cliquey, + all about awards between 'friends'. But i'm in North West, + can only quote from experiences with DFRC snotties, + later from ECRC (which was great in 80s, but since followed suit, as 'moneyed' folk moved further out into Wales)

If it was me, friend, i'd just get out competing with the RC, do your best, have a laugh, + chat to folk at competitions. They're the ones who'll become friends (not the ones you meet at AGM!) All bests, + hope you have happy times, BS x

I always go along to our RC AGM's, quite a few of the members do, so it's a good way of meeting up with friends or in your case, getting to know people.
The actual AGM will be formal and structured so if you feel a bit shy about speaking to people you can just sit and listen to the proceedings. Afterwards, it will be easy to speak to people as you're bound to have questions to ask and if it coincides with the prize giving then you can talk to people about what and why they've won etc.
Good luck, I hope you have a fun year with your new riding club.

Hi again, Vikki89,
I sincerely hope that you make friends from your riding club, + you + your Mum certainly will, if you get out there + meet them at training things/competitions, etc. There are loads of lovely potential friends out there. As Nike say 'just do it'!

AGM? Different ball-game. Politics come into it...
If you do go to AGM, just listen, + learn. Making friends comes later, often from chance (think wot i'm saying is AGM isn't best place to make new friends, but i'm whispering)

With my every best wish, BS
