Thought it would be a good way to try out the new forum posting some pics etc
So, Kira's busy season continued this week with a trip to Bury Farm for the BRC dressage to music champs. A bit of an awkward journey but definitely nowhere near as long as other people travelled!
We entered the qualifier on a whim, as its the only thing Kira can do with the riding club... and won it! So we arrived yesterday evening, wide eyed and clueless, having no RC nous at all Fortunately a few people took pity on us and pointed me in the right direction to get my passport and hat checked, and horse checked into her stable, all in one trip! Seemed like a bonkers way to do things, having only a BE and BD background but every day is a school day
Kira obliged by spreading the new bale of shavings for me and then got down to roll, before tucking into her haynet. Last time we were away for 4 days so she was a bit anxious but true to form, nothing stops her eating.
As I was the only person from my RC at the show, we had a lovely evening at the local pub with Britestar and her RC mates, plus one of my Team Wales friends from the home international and then it was time for bed.
Up bright and early this morning for the arena walk at 7.30. After Kira's little meltdown at Bishop Burton indoor a few weeks ago, I was very keen to get her into the main arena to get used to it, but she had other ideas... stood on her back legs for what felt like about 15 mins refusing to entertain the idea of going indoors again we were saved by the kindness of strangers and followed a pretty palomino horse into the arena walk, a bit of snorting and prancing ensued but she did eventually settle and find her sass.
Haynet and breakfast time, and then we were ready to warm up for our test.
Ears forward for a photo!
Warmed up well, I came out of the warm up feeling like if nothing else went right then I was pleased with her efforts in a new place, had some nice half steps which felt as engaged and punchy as when I have help on the ground so that was a good result for me
And into the test arena. My aim for the day was to get all the way round the arena, close to the boards! Last time she was indoors in a new place she refused to go anywhere near the edges and *certainly* not anywhere near the judges tables. So although she was a little bit nervous, I was delighted with her efforts not her best work ever, but all things considered she really pulled her socks up and tried hard. Only her 3rd go riding to that music and she stayed brave enough to actually do the test , what a good egg.
slightly chopped together video because my phone memory ran out half way through! thanks to Britestar for cameraman duties the other half pass and serpentine is what's missing
Back to the stable, I started packing up and then went to see the scores and was delighted to scrape into the prize giving there were a lot of us very close together in the combined Medium/Advanced Medium PYO class so our 66.67% was enough for 10th place Saddled up again and off to the prizegiving. Kira looks like a midget compared to the other horses!
Fancy frilly
Lap of honour
I stayed to watch my Wales teamie do her test and then it was home time. Salty was delighted to see Kira again they are such cuties together. And I am pleased to see my bed!
Hope the other HHOers at the champs have a great ride too, I am hoping H&C TV show the quadrille soon as they are filming tomorrow
