In the Central Scotland area, can anyone recommend any? Please.

I'm thinking of joining one but I'm on the fence about it at the moment.

I'll be watching this one with interest!

I joined one last year as I needed to, to enter a couple of unaff ODEs. I chose the one that was most local to me, but it's quite small and they don't 'do' teams and everything is quite low key.

I haven't rejoined yet as I'm keeping my options open. I know others are further afield, but it'd be nice to aspire to getting on the novice dressage team or having the option of riding club camp etc.

I guess one option would be for me to rejoin and get involved in the commitee but I'm shy and a bit useless. :-S

The more active ones I think are South Lammermuir and Almond but I'm sure someone will advise us soon! :D

Ok so not central scotland but the Peebles and District are very active. they hold regular dressage/sj shows, run many dressage/sj lessons all year round and try to organise other schooling things like Xc regularly too.

They also put teams forward for all the usual team comps - SJ, Dressage, XC, and try to part fund anyone who qualifies for the finals to help them have a chance to get down.

I am on the committee so biased!

I'm a member of almond rc and they tend to have something on every month.

Did a fantastic "Party in the Park" last year and also do regular lessons with good instructors - they had Les Smith doing arena event training today.

I was also a member of polnoon although they never had much on.

my local club is kilmacolm and killan - they usually have quite a lot going on but not sure where abouts you are :)

Was really impressed with the ODE they organised at Houston House last year, really hope they do it again this year too.

I see you had a good day - did you get anyone to get pics of you and the lovely Rex?

Sorry to hijack but any idea what height the KKRC ODE starts at - can't seem to find any old schedules!

Hi

My suggestion is that you need to go local but find out if they do what you are looking for. If PDRC are local I would highly recommend coming along to a few of our things. PM me if you prefer.

In my horsey lifetime, I've been a member of many BRC
- Kilmacolm (in the 1980s)
- Strathmore & District (in the 1990s)
Since 2000
- Edinburgh & District
- Dalkeith Park Equestrian Club
- Northlammermuir
and now Peebles and District.

They all vary and have an unique identity and things change within the club depending on the committee and their enthusiam. However, saying that my current club PDRC are active and an excellent bunch of folks. We do lots of training, send teams (anyone who wants a go is welcome - we don't run selection criteria) to things as well as run winter dressage series, show jumping shows and a larger summer dressage show plus an annual show or arena event.

For example, in January we have
- Sandra Morrison BHSI training - flatwork or jump
- Diana Zajda BHSI training - flatwork or jump
- Andrew Hamilton SJ
- David Gatherer event training
- plus a Quiz night

If you google us, you will find a link to our old website which is in the progress of being moved to groupspaces. Hope you can find us and consider joining us!

They update the website more than once every 12 months so that helps! Wouldn't you recommend them?

Not that I wouldn't recommend them, just depends what you want out of a riding club. Would have thought that if OP is central then South Lammermuir a bit far for them as we are mainly Duns area with most events taking place either near there or Northumberland.

Yep, I should've pointed out that I'm East Lothian, and had narrowed it down to South Lammermuir and Almond (And now PDRC) for me. I was a member of North Lammermuir last year.

I am an Almond RC member and think we are a pretty active club. We try to have at least one thing a month, if not more through the nicer, summer months and there is usually something for all abilities/interests. We've recently done a series of Club Days at SNEC which have been very popular and included dressage training with Linda Penman, SJ with Leona Urquhart (BSJA rider who is lovely), WH with Linda Lucey (very popular!) and the most recent included arena event training with Les Smith.

As babybear says, we did Party in the Park last year at Edinburgh EC with DR, SJ, XC training and group hacks and a BBQ which was lots of fun. :D We also did a senior camp and are looking to repeat both of these again in 2011.

Some photos from our 2010 events to give you an idea on the website- Almond RC website

We like to put as many teams forward for stuff as possible where there's interest. Also, you can be a member of as many RCs as you like (eg to take advantage of training/reduced entry fees etc), the only restriction being that you can only compete for one RC per RC calendar year. :)

Theres one in falkirk area.. Carron Valley & Community Riding Group. Friendly group, doing interesting things - Trips to equine places, schooling days, hacks in different places.. Beaches, Etc.. Should give them examples of what your looking to do and maybe they will arrange it as there next event.

February 20th – In-hand/flat work lesson with Sam Crutchlow at North Bellsdyke Farm (indoor arena)

March 19th – Group hack round Devilla Forrest, Kincardine (soup on return)

April 14th (TBC) – Visit to Strathclyde Mounted Police Branch (including demo/schooling session if possible.)

Gets us all out & about than saying - awww i'll get around to doing that one day!

I agree the North Lammermuir wasn't particularly active last year (mainly due to a complete change of committee!) but the website is now regularly updated and we have various training sessions etc going on and our summer competition schedule almost finalised. We're also hoping to get some teams together so things are on the up! :)

I personally would either go for north lammermuir or lothians riding club both are quite local to you, these are the two I'm chosing between joining have done a number of events ran by both
