Riding Coat - Recommendations please

My waterproof winter riding coat has finally died after about 6 years of constant wear. The zip has seized while done up about 4 inches so I have to step in an out of it and then just use the velcro on the outside strip to hold the rest together. It's also no longer waterproof. (Listen to me having to justify a new one. My OH goes out and buys cars with less worry about the cost!)

So I'm going to get a new one. I'd rather spend a bit more to get a decent one as it's not the sort of thing I buy very often. Does anybody have any recommendations? Of what I've seen so far I quite like the Musto Combination Jacket so would be grateful for any info on those.

I'd like it to be warm (could be a combination with a fleece inside, but doesn't have to be) waterproof, in a dark colour so it won't show the dirt too much, a longer (3/4) length to keep my bum warm and with plenty of pockets. I did think of a hi-viz one but decided to stick with a tabard as I can then wear it more places than just to ride on the roads.

I'm happy to spend up to £150 as I'll wear it loads and keep it a long time, but if anyone knows of a cheaper one that does just as good a job that's great. It doesn't have to be a horsey make, a decent outdoor coat would be fine if it has what I want.

Thanks

Grrr, it would fit me at my skinniest, but really I need a 14, especially with layers underneath. Unless it's a generous fit?

I live in my north face coat and body warmer, worth every penny, and not a patch on the other coats i have had in the past. Light, easy to wash and very warm.

The best 'riding' jacket I ever had was actually my north face Circadian Paclite one. It was totally waterproof & windproof, but a light shell I could also wear in the summer. I just wore a fleece under it in the winter.

I have the Musto combination coat... and I LOVE it!!
Mine had a zip in bodywarmer which has zippy pockets all of iits own which makes it super as a stand-alone coat
The coat is warm and very dry. I have stood out teaching in it for hours on end, as well as turning out/catching horses for hours and hours and remained entirely dry!
The coat comes to mid-thigh and has a rather clever two way zip with pommel cover to keep you dry and prevent from sitting in a puddle if hacking in the rain!
I have washed it in normal persil about 5 times (have had it since Olympia 2008) and it is still brilliantly waterproof.
My only criticism of this coat is that I can't "school" my horse in it as it is just too big! But I think that's prsonal preference and it is defriantely warm and dry to hack out/ jump/ fast work in.
I was a lucky pup and got the pre-season one for £70 ish at Olympia direct from Musto. Definately a bargain.
The other groom on our yard liked mine so much that she went out and got one herself!!
I LOVE my musto coat, it's definately the best coat I've ever had!

I have a North Face Jacket for everyday - dog walking, going to tesco etc. and half the reason I know my old one has had is because the NF one is much warmer, drier and more windproof than my riding one. I really like them but all the NF ones I've found so far though have been quite short so I'd have a cold bum, are yours longer ones?
Vee_Vee - what is your model called?
Thanks

Mine is a Summit Series HyVent Alpha? I don't really know the proper name sorry as it once belonged to the other half, who bought it for a holiday to Iceland. One day I just borrowed it during a cold snap and never gave it back! And of course once smelling of horse, he didn't want it back (result)

It is a mens jacket so on the large side (long in the body and arms) and I wear it with quite a few layers underneath too as I am very cold person (people joke I don't have a blood supply).

What about getting some warm over trousers insead of a longer lentgh jacket? You may get more of a choice.

That did cross my mind but I have quite a long body and short legs and find that unless I wear longer tops and coats I get a gap between my jodphurs and tops and the top of my bum/bottom of my back gets cold.
