I used to ride in a western saddle and found it really comfortable and safe (nice and secure!). Just wondered if they were suitable for the horse to be ridden in all the time? And has anyone used one on round (ish) cob - will it stay put?

You found them comfortable? A few months ago I took the club western riding and I found the saddles horrendus! Too much stuff around you, I'm pretty sure I brusied my seat bones as they hurt for a few days after. I'm used to riding heavies bareback but there was too much under you.

If the saddle fits and you ride well in it, I don't see why not! After all, there are plenty of horses that always wear Western saddles and have long and healthy working lives in them.

My paint mare is pretty rotund and is ridden in a western saddle, always has been, always will be. Yes it does stay in place.

They can be uncomfortable if you are not used to them, like english saddles you get good and bad makes, if you get one, fit it to yourself as well as your horse, lots of different styles to be had.

you should be able to be in the saddle for hours, think you are working on a ranch....that is what they are make for,to work in.

if the saddle moves, rolls or rubs then it does not fit.
