The White Horses Charity, or 'Caravan of Hope' is an innovative project taking ten young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in France and the UK on horseback from The Camargue to London.
Jakki Cunningham, who created the project as the result of a dream, has been awarded one of only three Long Riders' Guild flags:

The Long Riders’ Guild flag represents those who protect, preserve and promote the ancient art of equestrian travel. On rare occasions, the Guild grants a flag to an expedition whose purity and magnitude are considered to be of extreme importance. Such special journeys serve as tiny seeds, the true results of which may not be fully known for many years.

Three such flags are currently in the field and were dispatched with these words: “Protect its message. Carry it with pride. And ride well, Long Rider.”

British Long Riders Jakki Cunningham and Luke Tucker are leading a special expedition from France to England, consisting of twelve physically challenged and disadvantaged youngsters. Jakki has led two Caravans of Hope, one in 2006 and another in 2008. The third set off from the base camp in the Camargue in May. At the conclusion of this trip the ten Camargues will be donated to Riding for the Disabled centres in Britain.

Jakki wrote to say, “We shall fly the flag with the respect and philosophy that the Long Riders’ Guild represents. And, in all humility, we are deeply honoured.”

The video of their 2008 ride on the Home Page gives a wonderful insight into the reality of the project.
I have spent the last three weekends with them and am doing some publicity for them.
It is a great privilege to spend time in their company and enjoy the pace of the horses.

I caught up with the Caravanne last Wednesday morning, as they had camped for the night a short distance from my home.
Due to their late finish the night before, and my early morning visit, I just met the lovely Frederic, and the four carriage horses, who were tucking in to a hearty breakfast and looked really well despite the variants of the French weather this spring!
I was really happy to donate provisions for both horses and riders, and wish them well on their onward journey, they cross the Channel on 4th September.
Please do read the Blog, and anyone in France, please do offer to help, just an offer to transport belongings in the locality would be appreciated.
Turns out my sister and brother in law had happened across the Carriage Team, outside their house the night before, after an arduous climb up the nearby hill, they supplied tea and biscuits to the appreciative boys.
