Do any manufacturers make riding hats to measure?

I am having difficulty getting a properly fitting PC legal hat for my 6yo son as his head is much wider than it is long from front to back. He needs a 7 1/2" hat for the width but any make of hat then gapes by 2-3" at the back and pitches forward onto his nose.

At present we have a Troxel hat with the dial at the back that adjusts the fit but the velcro of the adjustable band to the sides of the hat is simply not strong enough and the hat moves if he jumps or does faster work.

Has anyone else had this problem (my fault for having him by c. section I know ) and how have you overcome it?

It is a very difficult problem for you because some hats are too heavy for such a young child. Do you have a very big saddlery shop within driving distance of where you are? If so it may be best to go somewhere like that where you will find lots of different makes.

Second to go to a big place with plenty of choice and try as many on as you can. They'll kno9w from looking at him which sorts of hats will fit better than others. We had a similar sort of issue with my daughter in that her head is very wide at the back, not so wide at the front, but she needed a deep hat too. A good hat fitting shop will also carry foam that they can insert and stick on to pad anywhere it's not such a good fit too, but I don't think they can pad 2-3 inches.

I have a strange large shaped head(64 cm

)and the only brand that fit is charles owen - mine all have to be a special order so they may be able to help .

My son has the same shaped head & the only ones which fit him are the Champion Ventair. They are probably too heavy for a 7 yo though. It might be worth contacting them to ask if they have lightweight ones in that shape. When he was small we had to resort to sticking lots of foam on the inside of his hats to make them fit. Not ideal but better than a hat that fell over his eyes all the time.
