9. Do you find it difficult to find a hat that fits properly?

Yes

If yes please state why?

I need a size 4 hat, these are often not available in shops or there is less choice in that size. Often the hat has to be ordered in specially or I know the size smaller is too tight and I then look for the larger size on the internet

10. What problems do you find with your hat? Please state

Often too loose, size smaller gives a headache and next size up means the hat falls forward.

11. Please put the following features in order of preference when buying a hat

5. fit
2. Comfort
4. durability
1. Style
3. Colour
6. brand

12. How do you think hats can be improved?

More ability to manipulate the size to fit in between sizes, make it easier to clean the lining.

13. How much are you willing to pay for a hat?

£200+

14. Would you spend more on a hat, boots or body protector?

Please state: I would spend what is appropriate to buy the best safety equipment.

Why? I think irrelevant to say which I would pay more for, I would buy the best that I could afford for what I wanted to do. At the end of the day each could save my life and I wouldn't compromise on that.

Hope that helps!

Riding Hat Questionnaire

1. What is your age range?

31-35 Just, yikes!

2. How long have you been riding?

21-30years

3. How often do you ride?

few times a week

4. What type of hat do you have?

Jockey Skull

5. From where are your riding hats purchased?

The current one from the local saddlery, previous to that from the big Robinsons shop - I wouldn't purchase a hat without trying it on.

6. How often do you purchase a riding hat?

over 5years :o

7. What brand of hat do you own?

Champion

If other please state

8. What is the most important feature you look for in a hat? Please state

Fitting my head, as I have a really big head that doesn't suit a lot of brands. After that, economy, on the basis that I could land on it and need a new one at anytime I don't see the point in getting a hugely expensive hat, as long as it fits and conforms to BOTH current safety standards PAS015 and the BSEN one then I'll buy a cheaper one.

9. Do you find it difficult to find a hat that fits properly?

Yes

If yes please state why?

Big head, some hats the size 4 is still too tight. I think it must be the shape of my head.

10. What problems do you find with your hat? Please state

I like my hat, the only gripe is that they get stinky quite quickly, especially in summer, but I can't get a vented one as they make me look really stupid with my big head......

Oh and although skull caps are much bulkier than they used to be silk sizes haven't changed so it is impossible to get a cover on mine apart from the lycra ones and they are a bit too snug!

11. Please put the following features in order of preference when buying a hat

1. Style 2. Comfort 3. Colour 4. durability 5. fit 6. brand

5, 2, 4, 1, 3, 6

12. How do you think hats can be improved?

Less bulky for the level of protection, better sizing to make it easier to get a comfy fit, sleeker looks.

13. How much are you willing to pay for a hat?

£50 or less would pay more if I competed affiliated.

14. Would you spend more on a hat, boots or body protector?

Please state

Shamefully I'd spend more on the boots.

Why?

Because I wear them for longer, and they last for longer (hopefully a decent pair of boots will last over 10 years with care), there is more difference between the brands too. I probably spent least on my hat as it was only £40, if I could have spent less on a body protector I would have done because I don't wear it much but needed it for occasional xc.
