Is this fixable in some way? Or new hat needed? I guess the lining has deteriorated or something? Its a charles owen, have to keep lifting it out of my eyes in canter :(
Bit begrudged to fork out on another hat as this one can only be 3 years old, 4 max. Was hoping to get a bit more mileage out of it then that. Can this be fixed or is it a write off?

It's apparently quite a common Charles Owen thing - mine's beginning to slip where the padding has compressed at the front. Going to ask shop I bought if from if they'll add some padding for me.

It's not a Charles Owen thing.
As you have had it 3/4 yrs I would say the lining has been broken down by sweat/dirt and should be replaced. They recommend replacing your hat every 5 years.
For the sake off your head please buy a fitted new hat

Yep, sounds like your hat needs replacing. I bought a new one recently due to the new competition rules, and my new Gatehouse hat comes with removable liners that you can get in various thicknesses to refine hat fit and whatnot. I am sure other brands probably do the same these days. Might be worth considering?

I think it needs replacing. It is not just a Charles Owen thing and if it slipped during a fall that would not be good. Would deffinately get a new hat.

There was a thread in the twittereventing group where people found it was a common CO thing with hats that there were relatively new, rather than a disintegration of materials over time thing.

As you use it you compress the lining also as your hair grows thicker/longer ditto. fold back the inner flap, lay some folded kitchen towel, or a piece of thin cloth on 1/2 of the circumferance fold the flap back an see if its a snug fit, add or remove padding to form a snug fit again.

I had a similar problem but I had my hat less than a year. I took it along when I went to get a new one fitted in the chance that they may be able to pad it out instead. This was not the case but it meant I could show the hat fitter my problem and not get the same one again!

There is a known problem with the newer CO hats, I have one myself as does my daughter, mine started slipping within 2 wks of daily use and daughters shortly after, some CO stockists are happy to re-fit the hats with padding for you but to be fair I think that is a cop out and the fitters should be trained to fit smaller in the knowledge that these newer models are going to compress too damn quick. Mine already has one pad in it and is needing another already. If I had known there was a problem I would have got the next size down and put up with a tight minor headache for a couple of wks.

Can't see it applying to the older models though to be fair and that sort of usage is pretty good mileage for a hat.

The lining does compress - and become less effective - with time. When we bought my daughter's last CO hat we were told that we would have to come back to an adjustment in 6 - 8 weeks and again in 14 - 16 weeks. And so we did. Each time CO approved additional liners were put in place. But that hasn't been necessary again since - the hat is some 3 years old now and due to be replaced simply from age.

You could try taking your hat back to where it was originally fitted and explain - but they may well advise that you should replace anyway.

I've had the same problem. Charles Owen sell something called anti rock blocks. They fit under the lining of a helmet. ( It doesn't have to be a CO helmet) They work well and there's about 4 in a pack. They're not expensive either.

May look into these, thanks. Failing that looks like new hat on the cards, doubt I will get another Charles owen though seeing everyone's comments!
