Morning all

I have a Charles Owen Pro 2 riding hat which, admittedly, I have had for a few years now which could probably do with replacing anyway. But lately, I've noticed the hat has suddenly became too big for my head and seems to slip over my eyes very easily. It's very annoying as I have a large horse so when I'm leaning down to do gates or something I have to keep readjusting my hat.

The hat has always been very snug and what I'd consider well fitting so I can't understand how it's suddenly become so big. Nobody other than me wears it (so it hasn't been stretched or something) so the only think that I can think is that the padding inside has got so compacted that it's freed up a bit of space (because obviously my head hasn't shrunk)?

Either way, it's probably time to replace the hat, because it slips out of place so easily I don't think it'd be safe in a fall, but just wondered if this had happened to anyone else all of a sudden? It seems very odd.

Think your're probably right about the padding packing down. Also does your hat have strings at the back that you can tighten (my Charles Owen Ayr 8 does) and if so, have they come loose?

Yes mine is the same has also weirdly been causing a strange pain above my right ear although I have put some thin foam in on that side it still slips about I have grown out the layers in my hair so whether that's it I don't know but mine is only about 3 years old but does get a lot of use. I don't think they have a string inside

My daughter has the same hat, (Well not exactly the same obviously - the same model!) The same thing happened to her surprisingly quickly last summer. We got a new hat but in the meantime the hat fitter stuck fitting foam all around the inside band.

They don't have string inside anymore - haven't seen one of those in ages! But they do have strings outside at the nape of the neck to adjust fit to the back of the neck. But unless they have just come loose I don't think you could use them to make an older hat more secure.

Hat shopping for Christmas?
