Probably will be cremated for this but here goes..... I have always loved deep Italian velvet riding hats be it navy, black of brown. Can't stand the erray of cheap chavvy hats on the market just now. What's going on with the jackets.... Blimey! Ugg or what! Jackets should be flattering and tailored, not cut off short and Ugly. Why do peeps want to wear short chavvy jackets these days, devoid of any tailoring..... Come on lovelies look at old pics.... How the he'll can you say what's in fashion at the moment is stylish! It's cheap chavvy untailored crap. Wish we could go back to stylish as opposed to cheap stuff. Nothing in picture just now would hold a candle to anything 20 years ago !

Jackets - I wholeheartedly agree! I really don't like the modern ones.

What's on the market just now is not far away from shell suits... Ugh. Horses are noble classy animals that deserve more than the latest chaviest cheapest ***** to hit the horse fashion market. You can defend this current trend all your want, but I'll find stylish pics to defend my post very readily!

To fan the flames :) :) - you could argue that the modern clothing 'complements' the bling tack........ :)

Though as I'm an old cheapskate, and my old jackets still fit well, can't say I've been in the market for new gear for many years so much of this has rather passed me by.

Don't get me started on the bling tack! .... ;)

I prefer modern day hats & jackets - sorry! I'm personally grateful horse riding/competing has entered the 21st Century re: choice of materials used & fitting.

tbh - the hats I'm not so bothered about, we need to make the most of technology when it comes to looking after the asset that keeps us alive, i.e. our brain.

However, the awful short jackets - no they belong in the bin. Some I saw at Windsor this year were little more than a cropped top with sleeves and a peplum - nothing. And to be totally frank, unless you have the most fantastic bum and legs in the world, do little to flatter the female form!

I completely agree the old fashion style looked so much better!

The hats I can understand the change, I much preferred the look of my slimmer line first hat from many moons ago however I appreciate the technology now and that if my head hits the dirt my brain should survive in tact and that while now massively padded your head still stays cool(er) when riding so that although they don't look as good I can go along with the hat changes.

The jackets, no. Definitely not the short cut ones, definitely more flattering a little longer and more fitted.

and where on earth do you put your flask, fags and treats for the pony. Have these people got no sense of priorities!! :)

Hats don't bother me, I do go for pretty plain ones myself and loves nice velvet one,. The jackets however are disgusting , really to short. It does seem to be the more colourful ones aimed at show jumpers though, can't say I've seen good tweed which is too short. If anything I choose ones that cover my bum!

I must admit I think vented hats are a huge step forward in terms of rider comfort but like them to be subtle not blingy. I love the AYR8 hats, mine's comfy and cool but it's plain navy so not too daring. As for jackets I totally agree, a nice tailored jacket either keeper's tweed or navy wool for women looks understatedly smart and workmanlike not to mention practical.

I ended up with a bum freezer tweed once.. We bought a jacket pattern and not realising it was American and Americans styled their jackets shorter... the hem was about 4" too short.

Thankfully this was about 10 years ago when I was a size 6 so I could pull it off nicely! These days I would have to cover my bum. :(
