Looking for a new hat! Mine is way too old to be riding in really!

Can anyone recommend a good quality one but that isn't too pricy as my mum is buying it as a birthday present as can't afford too much.

Thanks!

Do you want a skull cap, velvet one or a modern vented one?

I always get charles owen hats because they fit my head, and I like traditional velvet ones.

The fiona is lovely and saved for best (beagler shape with harness) and a showjumper xp is for everything else (I have a brown and navy one :o)

I personally hate Charles Owen (only because they don't fit my head! What I'd do to have a Fiona!!!! :o).

What style are you after OP? Pick the velvet!!!! They're the nicest in my opinion!

I'm a Charles Owen girl :) have the pro II skull in silver, a GR8 in navy and a Ventura as a back up skull/for the bf/friends etc

Wouldn't have anything else.

But would say go and try different brands as I liked the look of the champion ventair but really didn't fit my head shape. I think with hats the brand chooses you rather than you choose the brand lol xx

Thanks, I'll check them out!

My friend has advised a champion one? Anyone else got one?

My daughter is on her second Champion hat and loves it.

However, when I came to get myself a new hat I couldn't have a Champion as it did not fit. i got a velvet Charles Owen.

The Champion is round and my head is oval so the Charles O was a better fit

Hippona- I saw it in pink and also there is a purple version which I badly wanted as all my horses stuff is purple but it was like hens teeth to get hold of!
So convinced myself I would look more sofisticated in silver hehe x

I must be a freak as my current hat is a champion and the one before was a Charles Owen, made for completely different shapes! Anyway OP, I have a Champion X-Air Vented Hat and it was way way cheaper than I was expecting, about £55 x

It depends what brands fit your head. My OH has a Just Togs helmet and it is lovely and was an absolute bargain, velvet with a flesh coloured harness and under £50! Sadly it doesn't fit me. Neither do any charles owen hats.

I have a champion skull cap (they do a very good cheap and cheerful one for about £50) and a Gatehouse Hickstead for best. My next hat will probably be an HS1 as I tried one on and love the fit.

If you like champion hats Harry Hall are worth a look too as they are a similar shape.

I really like Charles Owen. But different hats fit different heads - I really liked Champion ones but they were the wrong shape for my head!

Hi, i've always had Champion hats (velvet and skull) they are reasonably priced and don't feel flimsy.

OP i would recommend buying your hat from a tack shop - it needs to be a good fit to do its job properly - i sized myself as a 58 but actually needed a 60cm :O

I have the Charles Owen Pro2 in gold.

I wanted the pink...but daughter wouldnt let me:mad:

I like it...comfy, lightweight.....

I have CO pro II in gold and it's so comfy and lightweight!

I love Charles owen and have also had Wellington classic which is velvet but in modern style and I love it!

Charles Owen J3 is a great skull too

Depending on whether they are right for your head I would definatly recommend a Charles Owen. All my hats have been Charles Owen since I got my 1st hat at 5. Got a new one in October fot my birthday and it was £53 I think- it is only the basic model and I will probably buy a newer one for next year when Im doing more than hacking out.
Other than that I think Champion seem ok but never really fitted me properly. Definatly recommend nipping to a local tack store and getting a new hat fitted as the people are usually trained and can advise you on a new hat. Also can put any extra padding in where necessary :)
good luck choosing a hat! :)

Please be aware that not all hats will fit properly or be comfortable, no matter that you buy the correct size. Please get one properly fitted.;)

Bows out silently.
