I have to agree with you after a fall as a teenager which left my hat with a huge crack in it I hate to think no what would have happened had I not been wearing it.
Many safety aspects were drummed into me when training 34 years ago and stay with me still. use a hat when riding or working young or duficult horses. Always wear gloves. correct foot wear. And much more. Now my daughter is carrying my safety habits on
I admit to riding when I was younger without a hat, it was the 'cool' thing to do, didn't want to mess up my hair etc etc. the scary thing was, I did so with youngsters, jumping them, everything.
I look back now and an horrified at how stupid I was! I don't think I realised why mum always drilled it into me to wear one, and had she caught me without it, I would have been shot!
I now always wear correct boots for riding and a hat whenever I get on a horse!
