Im sick to death of him. (i still love him though

)
He rushes alot,no,he's not hurting anywhere :P
He's fine usually, but when i ask him for canter, he tends to
tank off with me and get faster and faster.
Becuase he's 16.2 and im literally 5'4,he's very strong and sometimes i have trouble fighting him.
Im recently been trying lots of transitions with him and he's good at them, but yesterday I asked him to canter going large and he took advantage of me again.
It was scary, because you can hear him snorting out of his nose and getting worked up, and yesterday there were 2 little children in the school aswell so he's getting abit dangerous..

Today Im going to lunge him if he starts this, but ill get on him first.
Does anybody have a solution or something I can do to calm him down abit?

Lots of downwards transitions. If you canter, go on a 20 metre circle. Do lots of exercises in walk and trot before cantering, like serpentines and leg-yields. Really get him listening to you before cantering

ok

Ive been doing lots of 10-15 & 20's with him and it works.
Thinking about it,the times when he runs are when he's not doing an excercise :P

It sounds like hes getting more and more unbalanced which may be why hes getting faster as hes panicking a bit. I would be tempted to shorten the number of strides of canter you do on the straight until he can keep his balance properly e.g. 6 strides then back to trot, building up slowly to more strides. And if he starts to get strong, back to trot or even walk, rebalance and start again.

What bit is he in? I am not for one second pretending that I know a lot about bits but my mare is really strong. During lessons we could only do 4-5 canters as she tanks off and gets stronger and stronger with each one. Transitions just make her worse

She was in a Myler combination and my instructor has been talking for a while about trying something else. 3 weeks ago we tried a Cheltenham Gag, she was better in that, last week we tried a Waterford Gag, again she was better in that and this week we tried a Dr Bristol and she was fantastic. we cantered loads, she was not strong, not worked up and I didn't have her sticking her head down and going for it. Now I know that these are still strong/harsh bits but they work in a different way to the Myler, and each other. Maybe he is fighting his bit? Just an idea, I might be totally wrong but it has worked miracles for my mare........Mind you I have not cantered out in them yet, that may be a different story

Hope this helps and I'm not waffling a load of rubbish

maybe a balance thing - Ty used to do it. Lots of cantering in circles and lunging in canter worked for him.

he now actually canters on the right leg on the lunge everytime and doesn't tank off anymore like he used to....

He's just in a loose ring snaffle.
Just got back from riding him and surprise surprise....
WAS AN ABSOLOUTE STAR!!
Theres hope for competing in summer now
