just wondering if anyone has been to USA on a riding holiday, thinking on a ranch type or safari type rather than a riding school holiday
i am pretty experienced but my husband doesnt ride yet but is going to go for lessons and start riding my horse once he has the basics sorted it would be next year so hopefully by then he will be classed as a novice, but knowing him he will pick it up quick and be further advanced than that
he could also go off and play some golf to let me go on faster rides so if there were some courses close by would be even better
if anyone has been to any places in usa could you let me know the details so i can check it out
many thanks
oh - he would like to go to mid west usa if poss, as we would do 1 week riding 1 week at a resort (my holiday!!)

Not been a a riding holiday in the US, but have been out for a couple of rides whilst on holiday there. To be honest, one place was so concerned with getting sued that they insisted on helping me off the horse (well, mule actually!!) and the other place was in Tahoe and all they seemed concerned about was how much tip they were going to get.

If your husband likes golf, then maybe Portugal would be a good place to go.

Stayed here 3 yrs ago.
Parents took brother and me on a 'once in a lifetime' tour of America (before we went off to uni and became (for my brother) " too cool".

We intended to stay for 4 days, then move on south for 3 weeks all the way to LA.
We stayed 7 - loved it so much we missed out on mount rushmoor! lol

it was gorgeous!!!! Rides were great, accomodation fab, food - Oh my gosh, the ribbbbs!!! , Surroundings - WELL!!!!
I saw a bear cub on day 3, and felt like we were in the moutains - yet 1 hr away the yeeeehaaaa town of Cody - much fun!

Rides were short or long, =- Mum and I being Keen riders were well accomodated with fab responsive horses. Dad and brother being vaguely able to steer - were given safe reliable types - very happy! :D
Oh - And Mum and I took our helmets - no problems :)

Cant reccomend it enough!!!!

Hi

I just got back from a riding holiday in the states, it was fantastic! I did 1 week trek in Utah/Arizona around bruce canyon, zion canyon finishing of at the Grand canyon which was amzing. The scenery was fantastic, the guides were brilliant and the horses were awesome! We were camping as we were on the move alot, but the food was amazing and it was a brilliant and something i will NEVER forget.

The terrain was rugged and steep but the horses took it in their stride and i trusted my horse 100%. We did mainly walking and trotting but did have a few lopes and gallops. The days were long, 7 to 8 hours but i can't describe what we saw! I went with Equitour which do lots of different rides all over the world and would recommend them. The outfitters also had different types of horses from the forward going ones to the ones that were happy to stay behind if the rest went off racing.

I hope this helps, i think you will have a fab time. I did a week in DC and Philly afterwards to recover!
