Hi
My husband is very keen to learn to ride but he needs 'total immersion' to start him off. An hour a week at a riding school won't hack it for him (pun intended) ;-) Any recommendations for somewhere in the UK we can go where he can have lessons every day and go hacking to practice his skills? It would be nice if it was somewhere that could cater for the more advanced rider too but no matter if not.

Thanks for your help!

What fun! Sorry don't know of any off hand but I've been on (not beginners) riding holidays through In The Saddle and they are very knowledgeable and helpful so you could always give them a ring. More likely to be overseas than in Great Britain though I think they do have some in Ireland too.

I shall watch replies with interest though, always good to find recommendations for such places.

Thanks Tobiano. It is with a view to going on an In the Saddle holiday that he wants to learn to ride. We're planning to go on their horseback safari in the Okavango Delta but I refused to go until he can ride properly (he's far too 'brave' and is prepared to go this summer when he has yet to master rising trot)!!! I'll see what they have to suggest about 'learn to ride' holidays.

Wellington in Hants I think does holidays suitable for all levels

ETS: I'm fairly sure those riding safaris come with the disclaimer of you have to be able to ride in case your life depends on it so your idea of finding somewhere in the UK is a good one.

Hi Teapot
You're right about the disclaimer but like I said, he's 'brave'.... (idiot)! I'll have look into Wellington, Hants. Thank you :-)

I have been on the Limpopo Valley Horse Safari holiday through In The Saddle. Absolutely amazing and I bet the Delta is too.

When I looked into the possibility of my novice then-OH coming too, there were some lodge based holidays (Ants Nest I think was one) in South Africa where very novice riders can come out. But there is nothing to beat the actual safari and hopefully your hubby will be one of those (annoying!) chaps who learns really quickly and is very confident :)

Technically not in the UK, but Castle Leslie in Co Monaghan Ireland could fit the bill, website says:
Learn to Ride in 5 days
For the beginners or riders who wish to improve their riding skills whilst enjoying some gentle hacks around the Estate. Each rider will receive a series of lessons culminating in a 2 hour ride around the Estate. This is a 5 day programme, 3 hours riding per day, 5 nights bed & breakfast and a 2 course meal in Conor's Bar each evening.

They also offer great riding for more advanced people. It does look expensive, but I know that sometimes they do really good offers, or they also have self catering accommodation ( which is where I stayed) at lower rates.

Another vote for castle Leslie, fab x country course, lessons for all abilities. 3 hours per day included in the price.
I've done the wait a little safari in s Africa. It was brilliant, but you did need to be riding fit, Philip the guide would utter the words "shall we have a little canter" which usually lasted 10-15 minutes, often twisting through the bush, some small jumps.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I too have been to Castle Leslie and yes, it is fabulous! I hadn't thought of it for my husband - we spent all day everyday doing cross-country courses when I was there :-D

I'll check out everyone's recommendations - thank you all for your help :-)
