Hi!

My friend and I are looking at going on a little riding holiday this summer, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

We don't have our own horses, and would be mainly interested in hacking somewhere pretty, probably to an intermediate standard (cantering/galloping, maybe with a few jumps thrown in) - something pony-trekking-ish but interesting!

This place looks amazing, but it's too far for us, (in the south east) really, but if anyone had any recommendations along the same lines they would be gratefully received!

There was a thread on here a while ago, but it was very old (bumped) and I don't know if any of the places have changed hands/gone downhill etc.

Many thanks in advance :D

I'm on the mailing list for In The Saddle and Unicorn Trails. I've never been with either of them but they always look good if you want to go abroad.

Wales, Shropshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire might be worth a look, bit closer than Scotland although that one you have posted looks lovely and I do like a nice Highland Pony.

Thanks! Yes, Wales would be nice.

It really does look lovely doesn't it. Maybe we could combine it with a couple of days in Edinburgh...I do love Scotland!!

I'm going to have to look around I think, it's just a bit daunting booking somewhere without actually knowing what it is like!

Hiya,

I went to a place called Flowerhill in Ireland last year. It was great, keen horses and lots of jumping cross country jumps (not huge!) which is something I don't often get to do as I don't have my own horse. I really really want to go again this year!

Thank you so much!

The trouble with some horsey places is that the proprietors aren't always the most technically minded (for websites etc) and word of mouth is often the best recommendation.

The South Downs one looks great, nice and close by!

Again, thank you, had a quick look, the description of the horses is a little intimidating (one is described as only for very experienced, quiet and confident riders), don't think my riding (and certainly my friends) will be up to scratch for that one!!!

Field Farm in Lincolnshire hire horses out. I went there last year with my own horse, and one of our friends hired a horse - she was lovely, really safe. They have all sorts, something for everyone.

I used to work at Highlands Unbridled (Summer 2011 - between leaving school and going to college) and I can honestly say it was the best summer of my life! The area is amazing and well worth the journey, we had 2 sisters travel up for Hastings for 3 days riding (Petal Rides) and they agreed it was more than worth the journey. With the beach being 400m from the yard and forest on the other side of the road, the hacking was spectacular! I would recommend it to anyone, with a wide selection of horses catering for riders of all abilities, you can go for half an hour or all day. Also they do Coast to Coast rides, although they could be booked up, it's worth a phone call to see if there is anything available. The staff are helpful and friendly, willing to stay within your comfort zone. And if you were to go up for Petal Rides/C-C, it's normally possible for you to fly into Inverness airport and be picked up there!
Again, it was the best summer of my life, one I will never forget!!

If you want to know a bit more, give me a PM

Ooooooooh you are tempting me!!! The ponies look lovely on their site too. It would justified right? I haven't been on holiday for a couple of years!!!! Will have to talk to my friend, we could even get some non horsey friends up for a few days in Edinburgh/Inverness afterwards....

Yeah, all the ponies are really nice and good fun to ride! I can safely say it would be MORE than justified, if you want a good riding holiday that is the best place :)
